You may think it's "republican smoke" but liberals tend to ignore facts. Ford would not have gone down like GM and Chrysler. Ford was not even in trouble. Ford was in good shape because it mortgaged assets worth tens of billions years before Chrysler and GM asked Congress for a bailout. Ford just asked Congress to be included in the bailout so they wouldn't suffer competing against subsidized companies. In the end, Ford didn't take any bailout money.

What loans in 2006? Ford sold 20 plus billion in assets off. They just got a loan in 2009 to retool factories and for development of more fuel efficient vehicles. Like that article states, it was for 5.9 billion. Since that article is old, Ford has been paying down the loan according to terms the government set. That loan wasn't a bailout. Much different situation compared to GM and Chrysler.

canoepaddler clearly doesn't know the difference between proactively getting a LOAN and repaying it with your own revenue versus standing there with you hand out waiting for the government to confiscate wealth from one (taxpayers) and GIVE it to another (GM, Chrysler).

FORD got a free ride? Ford didn't get BILLIONS of free taxpayer dollars GIVEN TO THEM like GM and Chrysler, yet Ford "got a free ride"?!?! What a total and complete idiot (the author).
