New Dealer F150 4X4s with 4X2 Tires?
Has anyone else noticed new 4X4 trucks on dealer lots that have been ordered with 265/60r18 tires instead of 275/65r18 tires?
I like to checkout cars.com and other websites to look at new truck prices and started to notice 4X4 trucks that had 18" wheels with the smaller tires. At first I thought it was a mistake, but started to find more and more trucks outfitted like this. Even on the window sticker, it says they were ordered with the smaller tires.
Why would multiple dealers do this? Here are some links to a few trucks at a dealership I found today...

Thoughts anyone?

My local dealer is about 50/50 on 4x4's with those two tire sizes. I actually noticed mine has the 265/60's. I'm wondering if the dealer order system doesn't automatically switch to the AT tire when they select a 4x4. I was with the sales manager when he entered my order and we didn't click anything in the tire option section.
OR ...........
(fantasy paranoid conspiracy theory version)
Since 4x4's automatically have the bigger tire and its part on the 4x4 price, the dealer gets a few extra $$$ by selecting the smaller / cheaper tire.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe something changed in the ordering system and having 4X4 no longer automatically switches to the 275 tires.
And maybe the ordering people didn't notice or didn't care.

Could be a commodity restriction. I had my truck in for service the other day and my dealer has lots of 4x4's with tiny tires. Maybe the 275's weren't available upon ordering.

Wow, I didn't know it happened on previous generations.
Still weird to me. It just doesn't look right. And it takes away ride height. That means that 4X2s with 20 inch wheels have bigger tires than 4X4s with those smaller 18 inch tires.
