Default My Peragon Tonneau Cover

I know there are lots of various threads on here about various tonneaus, and they were helpful to me when deciding which one I wanted. There are lots of great choices out there, but I settled on the Peragon cover for a few reasons. They are made in America, they are forum sponsors that offer perks for members, and additional perks for military or veterans. They are solid metal which is good for heavy snow and ice we get here in Alaska, it locks, and finally it folds up so that you have almost full use of the bed.

I ordered online which was easy and simple, almost all of you get free shipping but I had to pay $99 since I live in Alaska. The cover shipped in two boxes within a day and I had it here in Anchorage within 5 days. It came packed very well and had no damage or issues. The day after it was delivered I received a phone call from Peragon making sure everything was okay and to call them if I had any questions, nice.

I unpacked it and watched their YouTube videos to get an idea of installation.... It seemed pretty straightforward, but in the end it took me and two buddies over three hours to put it together. It was a lot more difficult that I had anticipated watching the videos. The paper instructions were not really that helpful.

We finally got it assembled and overall I'm very happy with the kit. It's very solid and so far water tight. I do have a few issues though. First, some of the "upgrades" really should be included with the kit. The tailgate seal is nice, but I feel $29 is far too much and should be included. The rail end caps are pretty cheesy and don't fit all that well, I immediately stripped the one tiny little screw that holds them on when trying to get it mounted. I used gorilla glue in the end to make it sit flush. I also thought it was kind of weird to include an entire page about God in the owner's manual. I'm fine with people believing, nor not believing anything they want. I don't however think that a business serving the general public should include such things.

Anyway, on to the pics! I chose the standard black color as trying to match the factory paint in the past has been very challenging and I was trying to stay on budget.

I'm looking at retractable covers and I keep going back to this one.

That looks really good.

How easy is it to take out of the bed and put back in if you need more access and how heavy is it?

Do you hear it rattle at highway speed or going over bumps?

Also is it matte black?

I have one as well. It's fairly easy to remove. Takes about a minute. It's a satin black. And I don't hear mine rattling. It actually presses against the tailgate via the rubber seal and as a bonus I think it makes it quieter because the tailgate isn't rattling over bumps.

I also think the end caps could be a little more robust. I haven't had as much luck with waterproofness though. I've adjusted mine according to the the email procedure peragon sent me after my installation to no avail. There is always pooled water in mine after rain. I have the plastic bed liner, so there is no where for the water to go as opposed to people without a liner (see all the posts about gaps around the bed). In their defense, they never claim it to be waterproof. It just let's in a little more than I expected. Still happy with it though.

Peragon cover end caps seem do seem like an after thought. I agree a little more water intrusion than expected. I got the dual locks and factory paint. No rattles and it's almost like it came OE. Haven't removed it for hauling yet.

I forgot to mention that this cover required drilling 4 holes in the bed, all the way through the metal. I know others don't require drilling. With the aluminum bed there's no worry about rust at least.

I have a Paragon also. Looks good, works good. A bit of water comes in around the corners. But the bed itself is not watertight so water enters around the edges there, too. No water ever enters between the panels or along the rails of the cover.

The cover removes in a minute. The struts have a quick-release on each end. Just pop them off, then one latch and the entire thing comes off in your hands.

I like that you don't have to open the tailgate first to open the cover.

Note to the OP: you can replace those 4-inch bolts with some shorter ones that won't stick into the cargo area so much. Might help to avoid smashing cargo into them. I think they are 5/16", 18T.

We're excited to announce that we just launched a Clamp Kit option for customers who don't want to drill. The option isn't on our website yet, we're introducing it first to the forum community and it can be added to an order by phone. Full details and a video by a forum member here:

Thank you to the Peragon owners who posted to this thread with feedback, particularly on the end caps. We'll look at how to improve that part. In the meantime, if anyone loses an end cap, we're happy to send a new one at no charge, just let our Support Team know!

An update to this thread. My cover has been open and closed perhaps 15 times since I installed it and the paint is getting badly marred just from light use. I think since you are required to push down to open this cover, a clear coat, or more durable paint needs to be used. My truck is NOT a work truck and is garage kept so you're looking at the best case scenario here. At this point I would not recommend this cover.
