I'm only asking out of curiosity. Barely any hills here at all let alone mountains so this doesn't apply to me.
Just personal preference and the additional of almost 50 lbs of torque all done with out the constant working of the tranny.

Nothing wrong at all with either motor!

Just so you know I'm in no way hell bent on a V8. In fact before my test drive I was leaning strongly towards the 2.7 or 3.5 simply because it's the newer technology and seems to be where the industry is going. I also love the thought of better fuel economy. The 5.0 was last on my list before the test drive. For me the 5.0 made me smile from ear to ear and thats what makes me want to spend 40k.

What do you mean by a huge cost to boost?

You won't go wrong with the 5.0!! Long history and very dependable.

I've had diesels over the years and guess that's why I don't like hearing the motor keeping such high RPMs to keep the power band high enough.

The EB feels just like a diesel.

BoozeDaily has a good point, if you live in a flat area and don't really tow anything you probably will not realize the benefits or difference.

Loving my 5.0/3.73 setup. Still driving it easy as I have only 300 miles on it, but I did have to push it a little to get around someone today, and boy did it feel good and sound great!!

It's your ears that are smiling.

The low end TQ available on turbo engines will make them "feel" alot more powerful (HP wise) than some really are. In the case of the 3.5L, it outperforms the V8 in both departments. On your next test drive, go in with earplugs and see which one "feels" better.

Or if you live close to sea level. People at altitude will notice a huge difference.

If I could do it over again, I'd take a 5.0 over a 3.5 EB just so I wouldn't have to know my exhaust note was pumped through the speakers in my front doors.

Good point. I have had my 2.7 (4x4 with 3.55 gears) for a few days now and coming from my 2011 5.0 I it is a noticeable difference climbing hills and accelerating (on the low-end). I live at 3,000 feet and often drive to 5,000 or 7,000 foot elevations and the little Eco doesn't lose any steam.

An earlier poster said it best, each engine has a particular audience. For the person who uses the truck for work and family, but doesn't haul much weight in the bed or tow more than a few thousand pounds, the 2.7 is perfect. If I towed more weight, I would jump to the 3.5 Eco. And for people who love a V8 (again, I had the 5.0, it was a great truck!) Ford has all of their needs covered too. Win-win.
