My impression of the 3 engines after test drive.

I'll soon be going from a 5.4 to a 2.7, but the latter will be powering a 2016 Lincoln MKX. In whatever Ford/Lincoln vehicle, the 2.7EB is a marvel of merged diesel/Indy/NASCAR design & engineering technologies unrivaled by any other mass produced engine on the planet. We can expect to see this engine in several other Ford displacement iterations soon. Count me impressed.

2013 FX-2 5.0 V8
WOW, I bought the truck in October 2013. It is fully loaded, luxury truck, with thick cushy black leather seats. Supercab. 20" Wheels. With 21,000 Miles.
I ordered the truck and it showed up in 6 weeks. I shied away from the EcoBoost as A six banger has no business being in a full size pickup.
All I can say is: WOW, this truck is a rocket, handles the mountain roads like a sports car. Engine exhaust sound is sensuous. Acceleration is outstanding, I did a 0-60 timing @ 5.1 seconds.
A couple of fiends have the "EcoBust" (what a joke) (they hate them after driving my V8 rocket) Their 6 poppers only go 0-60 6.2 seconds, on premium gas, both have had repetitive problems with stalling and carbon build up. The Turbocharger is nearly $6000 installed, so keep your Mobil ONE 5w30 Synthetic oil changed every 8000 miles, and enjoy your turbo lag. The six banger is not even in the same league as the V8.
We all went up in the mountains in Arizona and on the way, we raced on the freeway I blew their doors off with my V8. We all got similar gas mileage after 900 miles. Highway 5.0 V8...17.4 EcoBoost 3.5L...16.8.
The truck is advertised as 23 mpg highway and 19 city, the best mileage I have achieved highway was 18.6 driving very smoothly not passing 65 MPH. How boring. Don't care about the gas mileage as I love the power and the truck is sheer delight to drive. I am going to put a cold air intake on mine, maybe that will help a bit.
I would be furious if I had paid the extra $1000 for the EcoBust. They DO NOT get better mileage. My friends sure are upset, with their six bangers, as they complain their transmissions always searching for the correct gear, while my V-8 goes easily to 6th gear and stays there until I mash the throttle then it has amazing passing power.
If Ford discontinues the 5.0 Liter V-8, I will never buy another Ford pickup.
The factory seems to love the EcoBust but it is an illusion.
The only problem I have had is both right and left electric door locks failed, Ford replaced them both under warranty.
The only thing I would recommend is, the rear bumper is a 3 piece of junk, buy a strong aftermarket bumper. Love this truck, comfortable, effortless to drive, blows away Chevy 5.3 and Ram Hemi, and the EcoBust 3.5 as well.
No substitute for cubic inches, but be careful regarding the giant Ford 6.2 V8, it only gets 12-14 MPG.
I looked at he 2015 Aluminum truck, it also had the 5.0 V8, drove it, cannot tell any difference, except my insurance company wanted another $485, because of the Aluminum.
Decided to upgrade from my 2005 f 150 ext cab 5.4. Stopped by dealer a few days ago. First up was 2.7 in scab with 3:55 rear. I pulled off the lot and within 1/2 mile my impression was there was no way I'm spending 40k for this. It had tons of lag and no feel of any power. I expected this to be the engine of choice because I was interested in fuel economy. Next was 5.0 crew with 3:31. All i could do was smile. Some have complained thats its low end is a little slow but it was just fine for me. I absolutely loved the feel of the it and the sound. It felt like a real truck to me. It made me want to buy one on the spot. Last was the Eco 3.5 on crew 3:31. Didn't do it for me. Power didn't feel any better than 5.0 and sound was less than impressive. I didn't expect to b in love with the 5.0 but thats what happened. I'm glad I tried them all out. Now I'm shopping for the best deal. Good Luck.

Who cares About fuel economy. It's a truck. Both engines get the same milage. The Eco just puts out more power and that's what I wanted.
I do agree that the 5.0 does sound AWESOME! For me, that wasn't important because I usually have my stereo blastin!

Uneducated troll... Especially to those of us that have driven multiple sets of these trucks in ALL configurations.. This post needs to be deleted for excessive stupidity..
I am quite certain that if called out, his next comment will be that his big brother can beat up our big brothers and he can fart louder than we can. And jump higher and run faster etc. just another sore loser
