Metal keyway in windshield wiper recess
Cleaning my truck today I noticed a small about 1/4" ×1/8" unpainted keyway type object. There was a loose one in each recess under the wiper arms. Anyone else notice this. It's like they fell out of somewhere in the arm

its a guide piece for when you install the wiper arm on the post. it's not needed, but makes it so that you can't mess up an install.. just line up the wiper blade on the windshield and reattach..

Yeah, I took mine off too. The passenger wiper sat too high up on the windshield with it installed.

It's the drive pin for the wiper arm. You absolutely need it. The friction tightness of the arm on the serrated edged aluminum drive will not last long and soon your wipers will be useless..

I am finally going to reply to this...
But yes, that keyway/drive pin is ABSOLUTELY necessary. I had my windshield replaced on September 19th, and the pin has been missing on my passenger side since then... I've had a them out for warranty service, they finally come back to my office today to "take a photo" of the part that is missing since it CANNOT be ordered by itself...
So he comes takes the arm off, and he notices that the spline inside the wiper arm is starting to strip out because the "drive pin" is missing... He also looked at the spline gear on the truck it self, and you can see a little bit of stripping on that gear as well... SO MAKE SURE YOUR PINS ARE IN!
Now I wait for parts for them to fix it... while it should have been a simple deal of just making sure the pin was in after the windshield was put back in, but no...

Add me to the list as well.
Had this happen on my 2011, the following year the wiper gear started to make a racket as there was too much play in the gear splines.
