Lowest Miles to Empty

Lowest Miles to Empty
This happened a few weeks ago but I thought I would mention it since I haven't seen it discussed here during my few months of membership in the F150 club.
I was driving home from a weekend road trip and the calculations in my head were telling me I was pushing it on the tank of gas. One of the little ones was about to burst an O-ring in her bladder and I didn't want to stop at a sleazy downtown gas station bathroom so I kept pushing it back to the comfort of the facilities in the suburbs.
I come from an 07 Tundra where 0 miles to empty always meant about 1.5 gallons were left in the tank. I pulled into the gas station with 2 "mi to E" showing. After "first click", the pump at the QT showed 23.1 gallons!
Now I know that the Ford calculations are no joke! Has anyone hit 0, maybe driven further?
FWIW it's a Lariat 5.0 FX4.

Lowest I have let mine get was 70 I believe, the 2012 Malibu I traded in once it got below a 20 or so it would just say fuel level low. I always like to keep some in there to keep to pump cool but I don't think it matters with the type of pumps these trucks have. My old truck was an 88 Chevy and keeping over 1/8th of a tank at all times could mean double or triple the life of the fuel pump

ive always heard most trucks there is about 3-5 gallons left after 0 miles to empty. to prevent people from running the tank completely dry and frying the pump.
only way to test is to know the capacity of your tank and fil-her-up. which it seems like you did.

I started my truck up this morning while park nose down on my driveway which I'd guess isn't more than 4-5% grade. While warming up the truck stumbled and died. I knew I was low on fuel but guage showed 30 mi to empty. Started it back up but it immediately stumbled and died. Coasted truck to end of driveway to level her out and she started w/o issue.
Guess there's only one pick up in these tanks, and it's toward the rear. Kinda lame for a truck of this caliber. Going to have to be more careful so I don't burn out pump.

I got the wife's Explorer down to zero and it took 17 gallons to fill it which tells me there was about 1.5 gallons in there.
