Looking for 2015, Towing Question
Morning all, I am in the market for a new F150.
My main purpose is for towing our travel trailer.
The trailer weighs 6700# dry and 9000 loaded. Overall length is 30'. Tongue weight comes in around 950#.
I am currently driving a Ram that the max tow is 8700, so I want to upgrade to something that is within tolerance. I have been looking at the 3/4 tons and I just don't want to spend the money they require and have no options or bells. The F-150 looks good on paper, but I wanted to come to the sources and get opinions.
I am thinking that a 3.5 Eco with 3.55 axle should do the trick. The tow numbers are around 10,200 may and payload is just over 2200 I believe.
What recommendations does everyone have and what are your experiences with towing?

That is great to hear, I don't pull all the time so going with a 3/4 just isn't something I want to do since its my daily driver. We typically only go camping around once a month at most and we haven't ventured outside of a few hundred miles yet, doubt we will.
So you pulled 13K pounds with ease? Do you have air bags and how are you leveled? Sagging I know isn't good for the truck, and it also is a huge pet peeve of mine!

No pulled 8-10000 with an 11 and a 13 model year Eco. 11 was a supercab, 13 was a king ranch super crew. Same here occasional towing, if I were doing this daily hands down I would go with SD. I currently have a 15 power stroke that laughs at me with this weight but got it cheaper than I could a new 150 so went with it!!

I am currently about 1,700 miles into my 8,000 mile cross country's trip pulling my loaded 8,200 pound toy hauler. I went to the scales the other day and my total truck and trailer weight is just over 14,000 pounds with full 36 tank, stuff and wife and I.
I was in same boat going back and forth between 3/4 and 1/2 ton. So far I am very happy with my 2015 Lariat with 3.5 eco lost and max tow (3.55). We will be in the mountains in a few days but so far pulling great. I am driving 62-63 and getting right around 10. The truck has just under 3,000 miles on it and so far not one complaint.
Btw, I traded my 2011 Lariat ecoboost with a 373 rear and I think this truck pulls as good or better.

I tow a 28' travel trailer weighing 7,500lbs. My 3.5 Ecoboost with Max Tow and 3:55 has no issues. I get into the mountains a bit (Alberta), still no issues. I am planning a trailer upgrade for next year, a few more feet, one more slide, and another 1,500lbs. Nice to have a truck that can handle it.

I have a 2015 Ford F150 3.5 eco, 3.55, with tow max
Currently towing a 5,600 travel trailer and have major problems with trailer sway. Pulled same trailer with 2004 F150 no problem. Very happy with the towing power, but the sway problem is awful.
I would strongly suggest pulling your trailer at freeway speeds before buying a Ford.
If you see any amount of sway during test drive, it will get worse with wind conditions.

Are you saying at 62-63 MPH you're only getting 10 MPG? I would have thought it would be better than that with the 3.5L and 3.55 gear. MY GMC isn't far off that with a V8 and 3.73.
I just ordered an XLT Super Crew with the max tow package (3.5L 3.55). On paper, it's rated at 11,300 lbs I think.

You need to visit the Towing section of the forum. 1) Your payload won't be anywhere near 2,200 pounds, more like 1,700 or less, which includes your passengers, their luggage, anything in the bed, ... 2) You need a WDH over 500 pound tongue weight and 5,000 pound trailer weight, and it subtracts from payload also. 3) 9,000 pounds loaded should have more on the tongue, and put you over capacity also.
