I think dealers don't even try and just tell everyone that. That is such a waste of your time.

The good thing is you threw a code so there is no denying your issue or saying "its just the way the truck is" because its not. I say that CEL will help get the truck fixed. Also Texas has a lemon law if you are interested the law really favors you if you are in the first 12/12. I don't think it will get to that but good to know your options. I have a hard time keeping my temper but I have learned you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

I was a service writer and it was always nice to have an understanding customer with problem. I was always more likely to really make sure they had a better experience. I'm sure they want your truck fixed as badly as you want it back. Putting you into a rental get increasing expensive. I just don't see how it happen to you right away and it never happens to them. My guess is they did not drive it as much as they said.

Did you do a video?

They had the truck since Monday morning and from Friday morning when I left the dealer till this morning when I dropped it off again it probably did it 10 times. Really upsetting to say the least.

I'm starting to think that too. The only reason I probably haven't been rude is my service coordinator is actually a really nice guy and seems to really feel my pain dealing with a NEW truck! Doesn't help my dad is a Chevy guy to heart and has already told me multiple times I should've went with a new Silverado.

I completely agree with your honey metaphor. I don't want to be the guy they hate to see for the next 5 years.

I have researched a bit regarding the lemon law, I know it's an option but like you said I don't really think it has to go that far.

I don't want to call anyone a liar but I do think they probably didn't test it as much as they said. As soon as I got it back it felt like a 50/50 chance it would do it every time I started it!

As for the video I have 3 recordings on my phone of the long crank just in case they need to see it again.

When it cranks correctly between 1 and 2 seconds, when it struggles almost 4. If I could upload the video from my iPhone I would!

I wanted to take it back but being an hour away from the dealer I didn't want to drive back again so I wait until this morning.

At this point I'm getting pretty frustrated, hopefully now with a check engine light code, video recording of the issue(it also did it to the service coordinator outside this morning) they can get this fixed.
UPDATE # 5: Service coordinator called me this afternoon. Turns out the check engine light pointed to a faulting camshaft phaser and or sensor. I'm no mechanic but after googling that part a lot of 5.4 engines seemed to have that issue and it looks pretty involved.

That's insane that a truck under a thousand miles already has to be broken apart! I don't even know if I will be comfortable getting my truck back after this, I haven't even sent the first note yet!

Service coordinator said the technician is working with ford to see what will have to be done. Love every inch of the truck but I'm honestly speechless at this point and starting to regret this purchase

If its a phaser I think you will be fine. Ford has changed many of them on the 5.4 and have special tools to make the job easy. As long as it gets fixed I would not worry and it could be just the sensor. Once fixed I would see about getting your warranty extended for free.
