Let's talk about lifts
I'm looking to lift my 2015 F150. I've never done a lift before, so I am not personally familiar with all the different ones out there. However, I know that I don't want a lift just for looks (Although I do want it to look good too), I want something that is functional off-road, primarily. I probably won't be mudding with it, but more rough, rocky trails out west (not rock crawling).
I don't like the idea of just throwing blocks under it. I want a suspension lift.
It seems the Icon lifts are held in high regard, however it's only 2.5" for the 4wd F150. Why is that? It seems like they are going more for a "Baja" look. I know they are functional and they have good travel, but it looks like they only offer the higher lifts for Superduty trucks.
I've also read good about BDS. I like the look of the 6" coilover kit. Anyone have one and can comment on how they like it and how it performs relative to the Icon?
Also, why does the picture on Icon's website show so few parts, but the BDS shows a lot more? Is Icon just not showing all of it? Or is it because a 2.5" lift doesn't require as much?
What other lifts should I consider?
Thanks in advance for any input to help this newb out!

Hmm I'm a nooblet to lifts too, but seems like the Icon is just a level kit to me...... Nothing like a Rancho 6" kit where you have to cut some of the frame but that moves everything in oem alignment under the front end.... I'd like to hear some veterans of lifting comment.

I personally have the BDS 6" lift kit with the fox coilovers. Absolutely fantastic kit. Provides a really good ride (once broke in after about a 1000 miles or so) as well as plenty of ride height. Hardly any body roll and you pretty much forget your in a lifted truck because it handles so well and is so stable. The big difference between the icon kit and the BDS lift is that the icon kit is just simply changing out the factory shocks with a bada** aftermarket set. Your not really doing anything but leveling out the truck as far as ride height goes. It's kinda like comparing a raptor with the standard f150. Biggest difference is just different Baja style shocks. I have heard that with the icon kit you can add a little bigger block in the rear and receive an extra 1" or so of overall ride height. You would have to talk to a specialist about that though.
