I like the padded dash of the Lariat better. The hard plastic dash should only be on the XL.

I wanted an XLT, didn't want to wait to order one, and ended up finding a lariat with everything I wanted except the extended tank and it was my second color choice (really wanted caribou).

Am I happy with my decision?

50/50. Didn't want or need the navigation or the flimsy bed extender it came with. I traded the dealer the bed extender for a drop in bed liner. The keyless entry and push button start is really nice. The leather seats are a wash. They looked nice new, but are now stretched and the cooling is useless. I can't think of a reason I will ever need a button on my keypad to lower my tailgate. I didn't originally wasn't the tailgate step, but it's growing on me (I didn't want the old version with all the exposed hardware on the tailgate, the new one is all internal).

Overall I'm glad I got the lariat. Others are happy with their XLs and others wouldn't be happy without their platinums. I got what worked best for me, and was available immediately ( I did search 2 states and ended up driving 3 hours to get the best combination of options FOR ME).

There are so many combinations of trims, packages, and stand alone features that there can be a truck for almost everyone's need.

You guys are comparing a lot of things like bed extenders, console, nav and such that can be had on both trim levels. Even some Lariats don't have the LED headlamps, pretty sad.

The only thing I miss from a Lariat is the keyless entry and push button start, I would have loved to have that.

Yeah I had push button start on my 2008 Nissan Altima. I can't believe it isn't standard on all vehicles in 2015.

502A on the Lariat has the heated steering wheel, nicer radio and the LED headlights among other things that were a must have, lower trim levels were not an option for me at all.

I get what you're saying. I was just saying the the options about my specific truck that helped make the decision.

That's the point I was kind of trying to make when I said there is a truck for everyone. Obviously certain options can only be had with higher trims, but there are so many combinations available that it's less about what trim level you end up with and now about how your specific truck is outfitted.

It's crazy about things that come standard on some vehicles (even cheap ones) that are expensive options on others. I'm in Europe right now and I'm pretty sure it's a law that all headlights be adjustable. There's a little dial in every rental I've had here that allows you to adjust the headlights up or down based on the load in the vehicle. It's illegal in the US do to some outdated law about adjustable headlights causing aerodynamic forces and crashing Hudson's ( don't wrote me on that) back in the day. It seems like that should almost be mandatory on trucks since you're more likely to have significant variations in load that will aim the headlights to the sky. Also the fog lights work with the high beams. And this is a Ford focus rental.

Agreed, I couldn't believe that my 50k Lariat was not available with the 502a package because I wanted the 2.7 eco. It's crazy that I couldn't order a 2.7 eco with LED headlights, 20" wheels, etc.

Well said! I know some US cars have adjustable headlights. Back in 07, my friend had an STi with adjustable HID projectors. I thought that was an awesome feature, and I too can't believe that this is not a mandatory feature on trucks, since they are meant to haul/tow.

In the US I believe it's illegal to run more than four filaments for the headlights, and the brights are considered to be four already, so the fogs automatically get shut off.

I believe that HID headlights were only DOT-approved in the US if they come with an auto leveling system. That's how it is on my Porsche and Land Rovers, and my old Infiniti had a manual adjustment know like the STi models.

Not sure about the LEDs on the F150. I do know that I wish they had included a dynamic/swiveling system on such an otherwise advanced headlight system.

You're probably correct. I may have my terms confused (auto-leveling versus adjustable). I agree that an auto leveling headlight would be a great addition to our trucks, and a dynamic/swivel system would be the bees knees so to speak.

Before:
I did had a 2015 loaded Mustang with so many issues that the dealer took it back after he invested over 100 man hours to fix them and he could not do it. The cheap disappointing navigation and on top the cheap leather are some points not to get them anymore.

I did go with the XLT because here in Alberta F150's are expensive with all the oil workers who buy them for their job's. I mean it is a truck - sorry I am not a fan. Spending 70,000 - 80,000 for a vehicle to get a Lariat, Platinum, KR - no way.
On top I got a XLT and my dash was replaced already. FORD quality? Better I am not starting.....
