For those wanting to know how the remote release tailgate works. There is a shock absorber hidden behind the passenger side tail light that controls the speed at which the tailgate opens. The first picture is from a Platinum the dealer had sitting on the lot showing the absorber. The second picture is of the same spot on my truck. The mounting brackets are there but Ford forgot to install the the absorber.

It's definitely an easy fix. Unfortunately the dealer refused to take the absorber off the platinum and put it on my truck, then just put the replacement part back on the platinum once it arrives. I guess they did not want to take the Platinum off the lot and miss a chance to sell it. Now the waiting game for the part to arrive and another trip back to the dealer.

Of all the issues this about the easiest to get fixed. Just be patient and lock the tailgate if you are worried about it dropping on someone.

It also looks like the dampener might be an easy upgrade for those that didn't order the pkg if the ball joints are there on everyone's.

This is the first year ford dampened the tailgate and they only did so because like you said it can be remotely opened so they didn't want the tailgate just dropping. They definitely need to fix it and get the part. That said I don't see a reason you can't go a week or so with it not dampened just be behind your truck when you open it. I would not expect a dealer to pull the part off another truck either it's fords fault not the dealer. Ford needs to make it right by you.

Glad to see it should be an easy fix for the OP. That doesn't make it less frustrating. I would venture a guess they do qc the tailgate opening, and treat it like the other trucks that do not dampen.

I have an XLT on the way, and I would like to have this option. It sure would be nice to have the other hardware present, and only need to add the shock.
