Glad you're not a dealer, negotiations have started.
I think you'll find that the response the dealer gave you was a Copy+Paste reply from a series of canned responses. When you talk to a real person, you should expect to hear something resembling Ricktwuhk's version.

Right up my alley! LOL

  • I took 6 months buying my first refrigerator.
  • I took even longer on my KOA top Taylor Acoustic guitar.
  • I rented a room for a year in the house I now have owned for 35 years.

You get the picture. Even if I only get $10 per hour discount for my time invested, I will get what I want, not pay as much taxes*, and not be sorry or taken to the cleaners very often.

*I am in the 25% Federal tax bracket, if I add in FICA and state income taxes we are at 37% throw in 6% MI sales tax and we're at 43% not even considering property taxes/permits, Universal Service fund fees etc.

Great thread, I have read every post.

I'm looking for a Loaded Lariat 4x2 with Eco, or King Ranch or Platinum.

Does this seem like a good deal? I can't figure out how to find invoice on carsdirect.com

VIN
FTEW1CG1GKD00051

King Ranch Short Bed,SuperCrew, 4x2,

Ecoboost $400
3.55 $470
Trailer $895
Tailgate STep $375
20" Wheels $895
36 Gallon $395

MSRP on the Sticker: $54,270

I asked for lowest price via email and got
$ 45,133.32 (+ TT&L).W/FMC Seems really good.

Said I might qualify for a few other rebates, which I do, Student, $500
and Ford Loyalty I believe $1000?

So am I looking at $42,633 , seems like it would be a really good deal.
But this is there first offer. So should I push back?

And can I say it drives me crazy, that you have to get Navigation to get an Aux input.

Thanks!

I'm going to email local dealers tomorrow. I've read this whole thread and just want to double check my plan before I start talks. My price should be invoice - hold back (3% of MSRP not counting destination fee). And that is also excluding rebates. I haven't requested a brochure yet because I would prefer to order a 2017 lariat later in the year. I'd just like to see if I can find a '16 king ranch discounted enough to be in the same ballpark.

It's a good starting point. Ford Loyalty, at least where I live on the east coast, is only good on 2-3 of the smaller sedans, not for trucks. If they haven't broken out the rebates vs their concessions you should have them do that so you get a better picture of the deal they're offering. $400 for the 3.5L means its an old truck - the sticker is probably the Pre-December 2015 "38 Years" variety. That means the dealer has the extra Smart Buy $1000 in that number. There's probably another grand in there if you press them on it, but you'll need leverage - and that means finding a nearly identical truck (or one just a tad more expensive) or four and getting quotes from all of them. Any seasoned sales leader is going to make you show them the competing deal before they loosen their hidden discounts. Some will just shrug and ignore you, some will tell you they're "pricing to move" and then email you a quote that's only $1500 under MSRP (had that happen to me).

That said, many dealers are mighty proud of their KR trucks for some reason, and are loathe to really dig deep on the discount side. You're off to a great start though, if that's a real number that includes destination and dealer fees in it.

Default Take the financing rebate and pay off before first payment

I took the $500 financing rebate when purchasing.

Within 10 days I was able to call Ford Credit and after entering my Social Security Number was given my account number and current payoff.

I mailed off a check to the real world address that day and was ahead $480.

You don't even have to wait to pay it off by refinancing.

I had dealers tell me I had to hold it for 30 days to 90 days. But in the end the last guy told me you didn't have to wait any amount of time to pay it off.
