Not sure your build but for me with a Lariat the 2.7EB is standard until you add the 4x4 then it jumps to the 5.0 as standard. So in looking at the price guide if you want the 3.5EB on a regular Lariat you'd look at the 3.5EB ilo (in lieu of) 2.7EB, in my case I want a 4x4 which bumps up to a 5.0 as standard so if I want the 3.5EB I look at the 3.5EB ilo 5.0. Does that make sense?

The 3.5EB is, I think, $1,200 over the 2.7EB and $400 over the 5.0.

Makes perfect sense! Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize the ilo was in lieu of... I also didn't realize when you switch to 4X4 it switches you to a 5.0!

Thanks everyone for getting me straightened out! I think I'm figuring this stuff out... maybe!

Built a 2016 Supercrew 4X4 Lariat with an MSRP of $55,515

Invoice came out to $50,001

This is, of course, before all incentives.

What price do you think I should shoot for?

I also read on a forum that I could request a brochure and get an extra $1,000 certificate. From what I was reading it expires pretty quickly after it arrives in the mail though so timing it out sounds a bit tricky since it's pretty up in the air when a build will actually arrive.

I read in another thread, can't remember where or I'd post the link, about invoice price and holdback. From that my understanding is dealer price is not the invoice price you calculated from the pricing guide but rather that invoice price minus 3% of the MSRP. So in your case 3% of your MSRP of $55,515 is $1,665.45. Subtract that from the invoice price of $50,001-$1,665.45=$48,335.55. That is the dealers cost. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I've seen looking through here I think getting $1,000 or so under invoice ($49,000 in your case) would be good considering it's a custom build on a brand new vehicle.

I'm shopping around currently and without anything other than calling and asking for a quote on my custom build and emailing the PDF to them three of five dealers have come back right at invoice price. The other two are MIA so far.

I've got a thread of my experience thus far here...https://www.f150forum.com/f118/calif...stions-315904/

Thanks for sharing! I'm looking for all the help I can get with this! I'm all about getting the best price on this purchase (that and my wife is already about to have a fit and we haven't even been to dealers yet!)

Thanks again!

This is essentially true. The dealer pays the invoice price for the vehicle up front, and then is reimbursed by the factory once the vehicle is sold in the amount of 3% of MSRP.

The dealer may be willing to negotiate on the advertising assessment, which is part of the invoice price and amounts to 1.5% of MSRP. In all, you have room to negotiate about 4.5% below invoice, but not much more.

I was able to get my my 2016 Platinum ordered for $55,464 which is $1,918 below invoice, or about 3.4%. Options are 701A, 5.0, 4x4, 6.5' box, 3.55 EL axle, panoramic moonroof, trailer tow package, tow mirrors, 36 gal, park assist, wheel well liners.

Then, when you try to hand them a deal on a platter, some want nothing to do with it. The fact that you say "here's the config I want, here's the invoice, what price will you charge me" results in a "too low margin for us" or similar and therefore no response is incomprehensible - but many dealerships are like that.
Yep! It si incredible how many dealerships are internet illiterate, even their "internet managers". It ii unbelievable how many return your request for a price on a specific unit with "please call me". Do they really think that if I have been savvy enough to sort through their stock list, find the unit I want and send him an email, i am not smart enough to read the phone number on their site?????

I must give an honorable mention here as one of the exceptions though to Evergreen Ford of Seattle area. When I bought my 2014 FX4 we did the whole thing by email, including trade in, with only a couple of phone calls at the end for the final haggling. Andrew, their internet manager, actually understands how it should work!!

For those who have seen the break down numbers, does your dealer include "Advertising Assessment Fee" and "Fuel Charge" in the Invoice price?

My impression is some do and some don't. Just hope to get a more realistic picture.

Also, for the same build, when I priced online, the MSRP is always lower on Ford.com then what my dealer quoted me as the dealer will bundle everything up to his version of MSRP.

Thanks.

There is only one invoice - the Ford invoice. That invoice contains the ad fee and fuel charge as has been discussed quite a bit lately. It also contains the X plan, A/Z plan, D plan, and holdback among other things. Ask your dealer to show it to you.
