Don't pull the axle. You can remove the strut by unbolting the top and bottom, then loosening the LCA and brute forcing it out, while being cautious of sensors and wires. Grunting and swearing helps. I hammered out the pressed-in studs on the bottom end of the struts after pulling them out. Some people I think have been able to get them out before pulling the strut, but that sounds too much like wizardry to me.
