Completely different system although I think there's a company out there on the inter webs that has the swap available.

Sync 3 is a whole lot better than the MyFord Touch. I had a 2011 Tuxedo Black Edge with MyFord Touch and I hated the system. It is under powered and out of date.
While I wanted the 2015 Tuxedo Black f150 , I made a point of not getting it and buying a Black 2016 just so I could get the Sync3.

Sync3 is a much better system. Sync3 does include applink... while applink sounded interesting, it turns out to be a piece of crap.
I wanted Sync3 because Ford promises an upgrade with Apple's Carplay this year.

How many of the factory functions do you lose in the process though? That's my main concern.

I've seen Android OS based replacements that talk about losing factory remote start, among other functions. Not worth it in my opinion.

If I could go aftermarket and keep those I would serious consider it. However I haven't even seen anything on Crutchfield or a couple other places listed as compatible with 15+ models so......

I honestly don't know, I have the MFT with Navigation. I never use the Navigation and I have an iPhone lol. Mine is a '15 as well so mine isn't Sync3 either. I honestly don't know what I would want mine to do that it doesn't already. I had issues with Sync with the 4" screen I had in my 2013, the phone would connect via bluetooth automatically but the audio defaulted to 'line in' every time the truck was turned back on... Drove me bat**** crazy, it should default to whatever it was on last imo. But given that it still says Sync, I would imagine the Sync3 isn't worth a crap either as far as a $2000 audio upgrade feature. Maybe for the extra OEM functions, but I can't see it being worth $2K. Just my honest opinion.

My 2011 Edge & MFT was the 1st model that used MFT. All kinds of stuff was only accessed via the MFT screen. Since then, Ford has put hard buttons for seats and all back on the dash. It's better in my '16 F150 but I would not consider replacing it with some 3 party solution.
I recommend staying away from MFT and go with Sync3
