I always loved how that old F100 sounded in the Expendables, and I knew it had a Gibson exhaust on a 347 stroker. Thats a pretty good price, and they have the single in/dual out single sided swept exit that I like. Might still end up having an exhaust shop make me one though.

I agree that truck sounded awesome.

It's probably a wash between having a muffler shop doing it and doing it yourself...I had quotes in the $400-500 range to run duals out of pretty much whatever muffler I wanted...

I ended up doing it myself for a couple of reasons...

1. I didn't know if I'd like the way it sounded and this seemed less permanent - I could always throw the factory exhaust back on if it was too loud or whatnot.

2. I'm an addict for trying to do stuff myself...something about getting my hands a little dirty makes me feel cooler and more mechanically inclined than I really am.

3. Auto Anything caught me on a day where I felt like spending money and it seemed like a great deal.

4. Most muffler shops will force bend their pipe - and will charge you through the nose to mandrel bend it if they do. Not sure that it really makes a huge difference on horsepower...and I'm really not street racing or taking the truck to the track but in my head it seemed to make it worthwhile.

I put the Gibson aluminized cat back on my 97 F150 and it too rusted after 5 or 6 years. I called Gibson to complain/vent and they gave me a new system for 1/2 price with free shipping. Great company to deal with.

I really dispise paying for labor as much as (prob more than) the next guy. But a muffler shop quoted me $40 to weld in a muffler that I bought. I figured I could add in two tips and some piping for less than the cat back. Cost $300 for a single muffler and dual out (45's each side) on my 92. Figured this shouldn't be more than that. Same concept over again, and it hasn't rusted in 8 years.

My 94 Mustang GT with a bolt on catback had fitment issues that I'm not excited about, part of the desire for custom, esp if its cheaper than the alternative. Mandrel bends aren't really a big concern to me. But props to you for a great review!

Why in the world would anyone remove a stainless exhaust system and replace it with aluminized? That's like taking off alloy wheels and putting on steelies with hubcaps

Didn't know the stock system was stainless...really honestly wasn't a concern for me. I kept the stock system so when I trade it in I'll take this one off and put the stock one back on.

I guess if I liked the way steel wheels and hubcaps looked better than "alloys" I'd do it.

Same could also be said for me putting bigger offroad tires on my truck when I have no intention of taking it off road...kills fuel economy, etc... Or a raptor style grill...and so on...

Figure as long as I'm paying the note on it I can do with it as I please.

Not sure a Raptor style grill has helped anyone get through an off road scenario. It's like stickers on drag cars, lol.

It won't...lol...and neither will most of the stuff I did to my truck.

The point is I did it because I like the way it looks.

I realize there are people who don't like stuff I do to my truck - I use it to haul stuff from time to time but all in all I didn't buy it to be utilitarian other than to take my wife and kids to the store.

I live in a big city and yeah it's a mall crawler or whatever you want to call it. Did I mention it's 4x2?

Completely understand people will think it's stupid and I'm OK with that.

There are a lot of things people do to their trucks and post on here that I personally wouldn't do to my truck but at the end of the day that's not my truck so in my opinion they can rock on with their bad selves. If it makes them happy and they like they way it looks that's really all that matters.

Sorry for the rant but I just don't see a point in telling someone they are stupid for something they did to their truck that they are happy with. (not directed at you or anyone else just in general.) If someone posts a picture of something they did that they are proud of then more power to them.

That is all.

I think it's nice they offer both kits. If I lived where it doesn't snow or rain too much I would buy the aluminized kit too. Honestly 5 or 6 years is pretty good for a mild steel exhaust. Anyone remember when cars came with mild steel and there were more exhaust shops than tire shops.
I honestly like this thread. I liked my 2 Gibson kits and always wondered why you don't hear about them very much.
