Some are off more than others. Mine was always within less than 0.5 mpg and sometimes closer, but close enough that I stopped hand calculating. Others have also reported being almost dead on. I doubt there's a vehicle out there that's bang on. Too many variables. It just give you an idea how your mileage is.

I had an '02 BMW that allowed you to go into a "correction" mode and you could adjust the MPG readout and make it very close.

I've never heard of this option in any other make.

I really try not to worry or track what I get for fuel mileage. It is what it is, and I'll continue to enjoy driving my truck whatever mileage I get. I look every now and then, but thats about it. Gas isn't too expensive right now, so to me its a non issue.

I noticed this morning that the fuel used with the remote start was not calculated in. I just filled the tank last night, parked it at 9.5l/100k after a short 15km drive home. This morning I started it with the remote start and it ended up turning off after 15 min. When I started and left like normal, it hadn't changed. So it seems that all fuel used from remote start goes uncalculated.. Leading to the optimistic consumption reading...

Now, that said, in the summer mine is still of by miles, without using the auto start... I wonder if just idle time is not calculated either for some reason... Basically telling us what the truck actually got while driving, and not what it used to sit still...

No but I let the fuel get pretty low yesterday so I could fill with 93 and it said I had 35 miles to go and I put in 33 gallons. So 3 gallons left and my average MPG (after 2100 miles, 1300 of that towing) was 13.2. So it was pretty close to right.

Yes, idle time messes it up.

You should not fill to overflowing, you can damage the vapor canister.

Many posts on the 1 mile or so variance from hand calculated.

Pretty much sums it up for me also. I drive with a heavy foot at times, so mpg is not on the top of the list. It is what it is.

I can change the reading accuracy by over filling tank. I don't stop when it first clicks. I top it off, with no over flow. The computer is off just a wee bit..I luv to put in less then 20 gallons and the distance to empty is 591..

Since the computer measures actual fuel used you may find it hard to believe it is more accurate then you think and your calculations could be the one in error. Since you can not be sure your fill the tank to the exact same level when you fill the tank-- unless you fill it to the top and can see the gas coming out, compensate for temperature and fuel density, or be sure your odometer is exactly right-- tire size and wear will effect this there is no way to really calculate your fuel mileage using the ole fuel used divided by the miles method. The odometer will also effect the computer calculation but the metered fuel will be exact used-- as a result the computer should be closer to actual mileage when compared to hand calculations. --for example a different pump could "click off" at different levels in the tank- assuming it is close 1/2 gallon off-- could effect your mileage a mile or two depending on miles driven.-- 200/10 is 20 MPG and 200/10.5 is 19 MPG-- the truth lies somewhere between the two --just saying
