Ford withholding 10 speed for testing
#21
Obama took office in... 2009. Congress (wait, not Obama?) regulated new CAFE standards in 2007 (wait, you mean under President Bush?) that raised the standards by 9MPG through model year 2016 and changed the calculation.
The Obama administration implemented what Congress (again, under President Bush) put into law.
So yes, it is President Obama's fault.

Existing cafe standards weren't good enough for the obama.
So he doubled down in 2012 taking it to 54.5 mpg for cars and light-duty trucks by Model Year 2025.
Vehicles will become much more costly, lighter weight and less safe if this foolish standard is allowed to continue.
Ford had to stay in the game (game has changed now) to keep selling high margin trucks, so the 10sp happened. The 10sp might add 1mpg at best?
We have massive domestic petroleum reserves and more is discovered everyday.
Those that hate fossil fuels can walk, bike, live in cave,or maybe drive a tesla/volt to feel good about themselves.

Why does everyone keep talking about a problem and them fixing something? The article says nothing about a problem at all. They are likely just running a batch through additional road testing to make sure the current assembly process is putting everything together correctly.
I was at DTP all last week and got to watch tons of F-150s (and rows of beautiful Raptors) leaving the plant and nothing indicated a massive problem with any of the trucks. I can tell you that my week there gave me a new respect for how seriously that plant takes quality issues, and they do pulls to check and make sure everything is being assembled correctly. Unless someone says otherwise I would look at what they are doing as just ensuring good trucks are going out than them fixing a problem.

Thank you Ricktwuhk because I could not have said it any better myself.
Your reply to Blackbuzzard was spot on.
It always makes me laugh when people blame everything thats wrong in their life or in this case, Fords decision to put a new 10 speed transmission in the new F150 in order to improve fuel economy on the Obama administration.
The new reality is that all automobile manufacturers are pulling out all the stops to improve fuel economy because regardless if you want to accept it or not, there is no such thing as an endless supply of oil.
The more our fuel economy standards rise, the less the US has to depend on oil outside of our borders.

I'd wait a year........ or three before buying one Let the bugs get worked out.
2017 all new 3.5 ecoboost and all new 10 speed trans are bound to have issues. Even if its just software upgrades each one is another trip to the dealer.
I prefer buying and not seeing the dealer again until its time to trade

used the vix of one of the truck adds pictured above, no tsb 's or recalls for anything transmission related. did discover they use a whole new transmission fluid.
oh and they too suffer from the frozen door latch TSB

Can everyone arguing about politics just give it a ****ing rest already?
With that being said, don't they delay new things like this all the time? Everybody freaked out when they delayed the 2015's for awhile but it all worked out eventually.

Now, if Ford and the today's Wall Street Journal can be believed, this issue is over.
Excuse the insert, reading a newspaper on-line sucks.

Since this is a first year all new transmission it probably will have some bugs to work out. With that being said, I would trust the Ford version of this joint development with GM more than the GM version. Remember the first transmission they developed together was the 6 speed front drive unit. The GM version had a high failure rate because they chose to save a few bucks by not heat treating some components like Ford did. Ford units were and still are very reliable. Kind of like how GM is now trying to figure out how to build aluminum body vehicles using existing equipment to save money. Whereas Ford spent billions to gut factories to do it right.
