Enhanced Ecoboost Sound through Speakers
#21
I wonder if the 3.5EB in this video has the sound enhancer. Seems to have a throatier in cab engine sound than previous model years. It is especially noticeable when the driver is on and off the throttle in the autocross course.

It's called Active Noise Control.

Another article from 2 years ago on noise cancelling tech.
The article says it works like noise cancelling headphones and is also found on Lincolns, BMW, Porsche, Infiniti, Ford Fusion & CMax, Honda, etc.

Another article says it is used in Cadillac, Buick, GM so get used to it.

Bose To Offer Noise-Canceling Tech For All
Until now, the system was only available in models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Infiniti, which used original equipment sound systems by Bose.

Charged with the task of getting the fuel economy of the 2011 Chevy Equinox down to 32 mpg on the highway and beat out the 28 mpg-rated Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape, GM engineers employed some rather unconventional fuel efficiency technology - active noise cancellation (ANC). By using the same technique used in noise cancelling headphones, the team was able to let the Equinox's engine run at a more fuel efficient rpm without the associated low frequency noise and achieve what GM claims is segment-leading fuel economy.

Sounds like sound cancellation/modification is seeing heavy use now. Even the 2014 Silverado is using it.

I thought Ford's Chief Engineer said that the 205 F150 would have "Enhanced Engine Sound". Where did you guys come up with "Active Noise Control" ????

I drive a 2013 EB and it does not sound like the King Ranch in this video. I know everybody is hashing it up but I kinda think it's smart. It's also not going away. The only thing I would prefer is some select-ability to control when I want those sounds. Something like a Eco, Comfort, Sport mode with sounds being the quietest possible respectively.

Making an engine sound like something is not, is not only stupid, it's downright insulting. WTF is next? Having your Fiesta sound like an Ferrari V12???
If you want your truck to sound like a V8 - buy the f***ing V8.
