I typically go to one track about 25 miles from my house, but at least 5-10 times a year I go to another track about 80 highway miles away. But during the warm weather months i go to the close track nearly every weekend

For those short hauls, I would say F150. It is a trailer rated for 10k lbs, but very unlikely your loads will even be close to that for a race car including parts, tools ect.

That's not too bad. NJ is pretty flat except up north. I think you'd proabably be ok. What tracks? Etown and atco?

I think you'd be ok with the F150.

yeah in typically at Englishtown and Atco, although I make occasional jaunts to Maple Grove and Cecil County. My tuner is also in Long Island and my shop is about 2 hours away. So there will be some longer trips mixed in as well. Sounds like I'll have to get used to the 3/4 ton for safety's sake. I'd really kick myself if something happened to my car (or anyone else on the road) because I didn't have enough truck for the job. Between trailer, car, golf cart and tools I'll probably be around 8,000 lbs

Having owned 7 F250's and 3 F150's I think you are making right decision. The 2011 F250 I had was a great truck, towed w/o effort, rode good(very good towing), and never got under double digit fuel mileage towing over 10k @75mph in mountains. You tow too often for the F150. I love my F150 and am happy I work less which makes my new truck right for me.

Yeah, you might want to get a super duty, might as well just get an F350, the price difference is very small between the 350 and 250.

Getting in to Maple Grove would be sketchy in a fully loaded F150 with the hills. Cecil might not be so bad if you came right off the highway. But forget about coming in the back way through amish country, you'd never make the hills and turns. I wouldn't even think about trying to get to Long Island in NYC traffic in a loaded up F150 in traffic. If you needed to stop fast or change lanes fast you could get in trouble.

I know all the roads you want to tow on.

If you decide to go with the 1/2 ton be prepared to drop some coin on real tires. My 2015 was ordered with max tow and they come with crappy standard load tires, Goodyear wrangler fortitude HT's, the tread is very soft and the sidewalls are pretty soft also. Certainly not something i would want on a truck pulling a race hauler.

Honestly i think its a joke that a max tow truck does not come with E rated tires on it.

Good luck on which ever direction you choose!

I always went w/F250 and put a set of air bags on rear, made for a nice ride and I put less strain on weight dist. bars. Get a better ride empty. You will not be pushing either Super Duty very hard.

Just picked up a 2007 HaulMark 20' trailer. Decided I'm going to stick with the F150. I'm going to get a 3.5 max tow when my lease is up though. I was thinking about a 2.7 payload package but loaded I'll be a few hundred away from the max GCWR

Well quick update, I went with a 2015 F150 5.0 and it is terrible. All over the road with my enclosed. Going to go with an F250 when this ones up. Don't know how the wife is going to like the ride of the 3/4 ton though..
