My dealer also said that when a completely new model comes out like the 2015 the dealership orders the top of the line King Ranch and the Platinums first because the demand for those vehicles is there.
I think only certain dealers can custom order. Most dealers get what Ford sends them based on market surveys...I read this somewhere and not sure it is fact..

Yes and No
Different dealers have more yank than others, but when a new model come out the dealers usually request the top of the line first because they know that the guys with the money want them first.
The smaller dealers are probably sent what FORD decides to allocate.

This is correct. My custom order is coming from dealer stock. So it will be here before retail orders. If I dont buy it the day it comes in, I guarantee the sharks in the water will take it by the end of the day. My dealer is the largest Ford truck dealer in the country and they move a ton of trucks so their stock allocation is huge.

Same here, they switched a stock order to what I wanted. Said it should be here late November to late December depending on QC inspections at the factory after production. They said if they made it a retail order, it would be closer to a February delivery.

That would be woodhouse ford. Bought my last truck from them. Their inventory is unreal. Most here can't comprehend seeing 3k new truck lined up.

Here's a good explanation of Ford's special pricing plans. There is a also a D plan for employees of dealers and Ford vendors.

I think this is what you're referring to....apologies if I'm wrong.

Does this mean if we don't custom order ours, we won't be able to purchase one till February most likely

It means your dealer would need to include your truck with their original allocation of dealer stock for you to get it near the end of the year (Nov or Dec).

If they do it as a normal RETAIL order...will likely be February.

I saw the letter from Ford posted on this forum yesterday and called my dealer, that is how he explained it to me. I suspect we will see some 2015's rolling around latter part of the year, but very few. And, as someone pointed out, probably loaded up Lariats, KR's, and Platinums.

No, if you do a custom retail order, it will most likely be February. If you can get the dealer to order one of their stock units the way you want it, or if you can find one you like on the lot, it sounds like it'll be late November to late December.

EDIT: Just saw the answer was already posted.
