Default Dearborn Plant

If you have some time and have not seen this it is very interesting to see how our trucks are built.

I saw this video some time ago and was surprised at a number of things. In the paint shop I was surprised how much human spraying was going on. They were spraying things a robot would have no issue with. Why is that? Is it a union thing to keep jobs? I think that speaks to complaints on the previous gens paint quality.

Related to panel gaps, I couldn't help but notice when the doors were reattached, the truck continued down the line with the door open. Didn't even close it. Could be good, but maybe not.

I do think Ford builds a quality truck, but wish they could slow things down a bit to get everything just right. The engineering is there, this is about assembly. It is an amazing process.

Shows you how they are thrown together, it's amazing they don't have more issues than they do.

That is how the earlier trucks were build.
Remember that the whole line was changed for the 2015.
You now have glue and rivet robots.
It is real neet to see and amazing how quick that line moves.
If they want a pee break they have to ask for a person to fill in so they can go.
The line stops for lunch and you see them eat their food right at their stations.
There is no time to pay around. They do deserve a good wage.

I know. At 1 truck a minute, how many minutes are there between now and April? Can't I just have one minute of ford's time.

I found it interesting how that PLAT tailgate got on the KR in the "What is this?" tread. seeing as they look very closely even with computers to make sure each truck is configured correctly.

Anyone know if they give plant tours? I'm only about 4 hours from Kansas City.
