Dealership Experience

I love the whole buying experience until the end when you go talk to the finance guy, which is strange 99% of the time I pay cash unless there is zero interest then I may use it for a while just too keep my Credit score high. But when I do pay cash they still send me to the finance guy who I always start out with I DON’T want any extended warranties or dealer add on but it like talking to the wall they have to dump their script to which I say STOP lets jump to signing papers. WHAT A PAIN

I have access to a Ford A-plan, which streamlines a lot of the process--price is set well below any other negotiable level, and doc fees and some dealer charges are set by Ford at a reasonable level. So, I don't have to worry about much of that.
However, the process can still be frustrating. I too do not want to spend hours at the dealership buying the truck.
I typically provide my saleslady with all of the details of my order ahead of time. She then enters it and sends me a draft of the order to confirm. Then placed with FoMoCo.
When it comes in, she is certainly attentive, but is also very busy so the process with her is usually an hour in and of itself. Then with the finance guy for lease info or payment info,... that is probably the worse part of the process and can easily take another hour or more (waiting for him to be available and then listening to his spiel and reviewing/checking the docs).
I usually stop them from giving me the presentation regarding the gadgets....I can figure these out or I already know the details.
All in all, it is a decent process, but I would love it a whole lot more if it was QUICK!
I've purchased 3 vehicles in the last 5 months from the same dealer/saleslady.

Yeah the finance guy I dealt with tried telling me that my new truck warranty only covered parts, not any labor, reminded me that their hourly rate was $95/hour and tried the "I can give it to you super cheap" edge. I guess they think that cause you're young buying a new truck that you have never done it before? He tried selling me this coating crap, windshield protection and some other stuff also. Yeah right! I declined everything. I was ok with him trying his luck... what really got to me was how upset he was about it. He no longer made eye contact and pretty much shooed us out of his office after signing. Every single finance person seems to have this, "I'm better than everyone around here" attitude, just because they have a desk in the back.

I am ashamed to say I fell for the extended warranty and pre paid maintence, but after getting home I realized there was deductibles and everything plus I way over paid especially for the FPPM, as basically I would only get oil changes out of the deal. (Coolant and transmission services are convientantly just out of the term end!)
So after looking around I read you could get it fully refunded, I called Ford Canada to verify this.
So the next day I went back and asked for a refund, which the finance a-hole replied "You can't!" I said "But I can, I called Ford" he said "WHY?!"
It was very painful to watch him try his hardest to convince me my truck was going to surely fall apart without these extra warranties, then he said he couldn't give me the money, it was to come off my payments, I had no problem with that. He was a real dink. He took it off the front end of my payments without telling me, even though it was discussed that it would come off the end of the loan, so basically I wouldn't be paying for the truck until many months down the road, something I didn't want. It became a whole thing with me coming down to the dealership and closing his door, to tell him how it was going to be in not so kind words.
The whole dealership actually was a bad experience. I got a whole 3 page email letter I have saved on my computer documenting everything with time frames and dates. I threatened to send it to FORD after I got fed up of my truck having defects for over 3 months. The only good part was when they referred me to another dealer to fix the issues I had with the actual truck, because they couldn't organize a BJ in a whorehouse.

I'm lucky that I live near a really great dealer. So good in fact, that a few months ago there was a story in the paper about them expanding and there was not one negative thing said in the comment section about the dealership. Not one.

I'm glad to hear it's not all bad! This thread absolutely contains all kinds of experiences. Positive or negative, I'd love to hear from any of you. If you believe your local dealership deserves some recognition or criticism, send some details my way and I'll document it.

My local dealer, from home town anyway, Ray Skillman Hoosier Ford is the best dealer Ive worked with. Sold my Dad his 02 F150 XLT new that he still has and a used escape for my nephew. They are working to help my sister out currently on a used car purchase. My dad is kicking around whether or not to get a Taurus or F150 but I know it will be from there if he does.
Not if, but when I get everything in line for a new F150 it will be from there. Kenny in sales has always been great to deal with and the service manager there Eric is top notch as well.
If you are from Central Indiana, highly recommended.
