FYI, I found the more experienced, better installers for Safelite, are the guys that come out to you for the replacement....well worth the little extra cost IMO. To me, it seemed, like the guys in the local office were nubees.

Well as someone who has had to replace the glass TWICE in the first 90 days of ownership I will give to Safelite in the DFW area. Great service and each one was done for the lovely price of $440.00 before insurance.

Wow This is timely... Was driving home yesterday and got pelted with rocks from a rock truck going the other way. Thought I had dodged the bullet but then I saw it.. Huge chip right by the built proud sticker on the right side. Man I was Livid! Came out to the truck about an hour after and a crack was crawling across the windshield ARGHHH! Gonna talk to insurance today and schedule safelite to come out and replace it.. How do I know if I have SoundScreen acoustic windshield and do all our trucks have this??

I got slammed with a rock yesterday on the windshield, called Safelite... They wanted to repair it because a windshield wasn't available fast enough. They came, repaired it... and the repair looked decent, could see it still... but was clear enough... Driving to work this morning I noticed little white hairline cracks inside the repair area. I called Safelite and they said with the heat yesterday, then the rain we had cooled everything off, it could have recracked the area... So they suggested a replacement (they didn't have one yesterday, but i'm scheduled for next Saturday to have it replaced now).

Did Safelite tell anyone who had the windshield replaced that they needed to take it back to Ford to have the Lane Departure system re-calibrated? I called my local Ford dealer and they had no idea about it as they haven't had to replace any windshields yet. Anyone know about this?

Most new vehicles with the Lane Departure warning systems do not auto re-calibrate when the windshield gets changed. From what I've seen only GM's do auto re-calibrate. To cover themselves from a legal standpoint most glass shops will tell you that it may need to be re-calibrated by the dealer. Unfortunately, the dealer doesn't always know how to do this.

As far as replacing the windshield goes, they're pretty simple. Other than the dip at the top they're basically the same as the previous model F150. Sometimes the glass is too close to the body to use a cold knife, so some guys will use a wire to cut it out to avoid damaging any paint. For now your only going to get OEM glass replacement, none of the aftermarket suppliers have windshields for these yet.

I recently had a pigeon fly into my windshield on the passenger side. Bent my antenna and a pretty big crack on the corner. Realized that Geico has windshield replacement... got me in on the same day and replaced it with OEM Ford glass. The invoice showed $600+ including labor, but paid $50 deductible.

One thing I noticed though: the auto-headlight is way more sensitive now..

I just purchased my new F-150 last week. Less than 3/4 of a mile from leaving the dealer, whack!, giant star right in front of my eye. Do I win the "Soonest rock chip award"? Sorry to hear about your windshield. I am glad to hear the replacement cost isn't horrible.

Took a rock to the windshield and it grew legs...called a couple glass places and heard a couple different things, one said have dealer re cal lane departure/rain sensing and auto headlight cameras other said not to worry.

Which one do I listen to, for those who had their windows replaced did you get your forward facing camera re calibrated?
