Cracking sound from the bed and tailgate...
Hi all,
Just picked up an xlt super crew. Awesome truck.
My concern is simple, if I step on the tailgate it makes a cracking sound which could be some sort of deflection?? I'm not sure, the sound it makes when walking in the bed of the truck literally sounds like your crushing a soda can (aluminum body???).
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a break in period? I can't find anyone else with the same concerns online. Same sound if sitting on tailgate as well.
If anyone is having the issue or can put my mind at ease please do.
Rock on.

Mine does it too. Even with a plastic bed liner installed. I'd think there has to be some play at the connections because of thermal expansion of dissimilar metals ie. steel frame mated to aluminum bed. But I'm like you, I wasn't expecting it and I'm wondering if it will go away with time. I haven't hauled anything really heavy in the box yet, but maybe that would make everything settle. All I've had is a couple hundred pounds of beach gear.

Can't say the same for tailgate and bed but stepping on the passenger side factory steps causes them to creak. Sounds like sand is stuck behind them and scraping on the paint almost. Bolts are tight and it's never been in dirt it has 100 miles on it. No idea at this point

Thanks for the responses. Knowing I'm not the only one makes me feel better. I'm surprised I couldn't find anything about this with a Google search. It is a down right scary sound. I plan to go to the ford dealership and see how many trucks do it.
