Cooling Seats issue and TSB feedback

Does anybody know if Lear Corporation still builds the seats? The last I heard (2008/2010 timeframe), there was talk of bringing seat design and build back under the Ford umbrella. Seat design/build was almost totally outsourced by the OEMs by the late 1980s, largely due to ergonomic/repetitive motion liabilities that ended up in Workman's Comp claims.
Did I fail to mention that I worked in a Quality Engineering/Management capacity in tier one OEM seating supply for roughly 17 years? I got out of the business in 2008; that was during the automotive industry hard times and it was no longer any fun.

Ford has its own seat devision for design, test, etc but they were still outsourced but the company making them made the decision to close their seat division last year. Have not heard if they found a new source yet or have decided to build in house. Fords primary focus for the last several years has been their global seat initiative. They have been working to make a global platform seat that will fit across all makes and models. The same seat frame that goes in a fiesta goes in the F150 and Lincoln's, etc. Cross platform fit has been the number one priority and weight savings has been number two. Unfortunately both of these have come at the cost of comfort and function.

No fart cans allowed
It's been back and forth between Lear and JCI since the mid-80s; I worked for both companies. Last I knew, Lear was building the seats. JCI has spun their seating division off and would like to sell it; it takes too much capital investment for the profits that can be earned.

I feel your pain as well . I to live in Tucson ( Oro Valley) and Oracle Ford did the TSB on my 2015 Platinum and I will say they did and a great job on the install of the new TED and intake sock unit ( I wouldn't let Jim Click Touch my truck) The cooling of the back of seat was a little better than before the installation but as almost every post on this site will tell you the TSB only improves cooling slightly . I then ordered the exhaust kit from Tim and installed it and found the cooling improved significantly better than the TSB only. Tim's exhaust kit is key to getting the hot air from the TED from the seat back. Living in Tucson you know how getting into a hot truck with hot seats is one of the biggest reasons for getting the Platinum with cooled seats . Even with Tim's kit and with the TSB the cooling of the back of the seat was still short of the cooling from the bottom of the seat. I have a FLIR one thermal image camera and worked on several different setups. I ended up with an install of tubing from the cooling vents into the sock that now makes the back seat now cool better than the bottom it cools very fast and will in fact get to cold and I find I have to lower the setting after about 10 minutes. My other posts will explain how to do this if interested . Tim has posted some videos and photos I sent to him on youtube and on this site that prove this works . I think you will find without Tim'S kit you probably still won't have much cooling of your seats. I you want the seat back to cool better than the bottom I can be done with Tim's kit and the hoses from the A/C . Hooking the hoses up only costs about 25.00 for the hose and takes about 15 minutes per seat. And yes you can turn on the heat in the truck and still run the cooled seats and it does not significantly increase The temperature of the TED unit. Tim has pictures and videos to verify this. Good luck.

That's what I said. I then asked since my truck is a 16 with 4K miles on her and I have the original plus an extended warranty are you going to give me a rental car, well that didn't go over very well with them. I figure I'll just take it back to Oracle Ford and let them do the service.

Sam,
I don't mean to laugh, but I am starting to feel your pain. I'm in Tucson, Arizona and I went over to my local dealer (Jim Click) and talked to the service department about the TSB for this issue and they said they had never heard about it. I showed them this thread and said there's over 4K people that have complained about this issue.
I gave them the TSB number and they played dumb then told me that, I would have to leave my truck for 3-5 days so they could look at it. I said isn't that why I'm making the appointment in the first place? Again the blank stare from them, so I called the dealer I bought my truck from in Oracle, Arizona and the service department said they knew exactly what I was talking about and had the parts in stock and that they would have me in and out within a few hours.
