I don't understand why they haven't released existing engine power. They obviously know what it is because they've already released power for NEW engines. What do they gain by withholding what's honestly nothing more than a footnote at this point. MPGs they're gonna hoard. That is the competitive information that the other makers need to leap frog Ford next year.

Probably because if there is a big increase in power with the ecoboost And the 5.0 it would kill the sales of the 14s. Everyone would want the 15 and the remaining 14s would be sitting around.

This makes sense, the 15's will sell like crazy, so taking steps to minimalize the affect on 14 sales is a good move. That and spacing out announcements about the 15 keeps it on the front page of automotive news.

Competition already knows power ratings and mpgs, or at least has a very good idea. Keeping those things secret this late in the game is nonsense. As for 14s sitting around? That's a non issue. They'll sell even at a marginal discount. Plus why would they worry about a few. 14s staggering around lots? If the new trucks are so good then They have lightning in a bottle and should sell so well that leftover 14s shouldn't even be on the radar.
Ford is just being stupid. I dint think I've ever seen a more botched attempt at a major new model launch. It's ridiculous.

Of course the competition has a good idea. But it is much easier to tune for Ford max+5hp so you can claim highest instead of somewhere around xhp. Dodge does just that in 3/4 tons. A good idea of what the numbers are is a different target than exact numbers if you are advertising a vehicle with best in class power. One is easy to beat.

I wonder, is making a purchase decision based on mileage a better or worse decision than basing the purchase strictly on exhaust sound?
