Considering dropping Ecoboost for 5.0

Lol well you would say that because you have the Eco.
You're right both engines have pros and cons but the 5.0 is supposed to have more hp and it sounds way better. Speaking just about performance, I think there's way more power gains to be had with the 5.0 via aftermarket.
I love my ecoboost and it flies, the 3.5 in my dads 15' is an animal as well... And I've driven the 15' 5.0 too, not nearly as much torque but it's still powerful and that coyote definitely howls.

Op, the 5.0 is a fine engine and gets the job done. Hope you are satisfied with your purchase. Buyers remorse sucks....

Who cares about the extra power if your not going to use/need it? Long term reliability would be my #1 concern.

I look at it as trading superb low-end torque for peace of mind. And peace of mind can be pretty valuable over the 10 or so years I expect to have this truck. I do think the Ecoboost would make an ideal 2 or 3 year lease though.
I find it interesting that the current 3.5 EB is likely soon to be replaced with the new Ecoboost that will be in the 2nd generation Raptor. That one will use a dual-injection system which is a combination of port and direct fuel injection. That should solve the carbon build-up and other issues. Too bad I can't wait for it (or the 10 speed transmission or Sync 3...)
BTW, has anyone deciphered the payload penalty of the EB vs. 5.0? According to the Build and Price it looks like I'll gain 60 lbs of payload by making this change. Not that much but with my configuration every bit counts.
Still unsure as to axle ratio. I feel the 3.73 would give me a little bit of wiggle room should I end up towing more in the future but it's weird how it appears to cost $400 more while the 3.55 is no additional cost on both the EB and 5.0 if you already have the FX4 package (I know it doesn't show this on the Build and Price but it does on the invoice information I have and the dealer confirms it).

I wouldn't have a 5.0 without 3.73. Lots of people like it though. In my opinion it really would benefit from 4.10. YMMV

Well it's done, changed order to the 5.0 with a 3.73 locking rear.
Another question; why do only the Ecoboost trucks get a front wheel liner?

Thanks for the feedback guys, I guess I have convinced myself the 5.0L is a better choice for me. Still unsure as to the axle ratio, sort of feel that now I've given up on outright performance I may as well take the little bit of gas savings and go for with the 3.55. I actually do tow a fair bit but it is typically only 3000 - 4000 lb trailers. Won't be changing tires unless it is to go to 18" wheels instead of 20".
Now to deal with the sales manager at my dealership - I've gotton the impression he really hates order changes and all I've done previously is drop those sad OEM floor mats.

As far as the sales manager, I'm always surprised and frustrated at dealerships that make the purchasing/ordering experience less than pleasurable. You are spending thousands on a beautiful machine. You deserve the right to be thorough with your decisions. It amazes me how many people are willing to drop $50k with hardly any research and only a drive around the block. I'm not saying this is you btw.
