So Ram is going to put out a turbo 6.

And GM is going to put out an aluminum pickup.

Quote:
GM to Make Aluminum Trucks
Worried about Ford’s redo of its F-series pickups, GM has now pushed forward the launch of the planned new versions of the Silverado and Sierra. The auto maker will also be releasing redesigned versions of its big SUVs a year later. The new GM pickups will follow Ford’s lead, and use aluminum bodies in order to reduce the weight of the vehicles. Earlier this year, GM signed contracts with Alcoa AA -3.01% and Novalis for the supply of aluminum sheet metal for its next generation of pick up trucks.
Welcome to the party, guys, better late than never!

To all the Ford Na-Sayers,
Looks like Ford Motor is ahead of the curve, as usual.

If Dodge or Chevrolet build a Truck using Aluminum that would be old news.
Ford has already done that and is looking ahead designing the 2018 F-150.

Can't wait for the beer can comments now. Just like those stupid chevy commercials where they made fun of the heated steering wheels and steps...

I still think they make great trucks and will cross shop all brands when my current vehicle dies, but until then the more the merrier!

Honestly, Ford has decided to streamline their vehicles with the modular engines. Chevy had that with the small/big block for years. As an avid "Ford Fan-Boy", I never could understand why they didn't do the same thing. Weird thing is that makes me love Fords that much more. You have to know what you have and what you want to do rather than, "is it small block or big block". Don't get me wrong, the LS platforms and the older Vortech engines were steps up in the GM world. Kind of nice to have Ford leading the pack again. It will be an interesting next 5 years with everybody pushing for better vehicles. Great time to be a motor head.

The LS engines were worlds better than the modular 4.6.

I agree, but that's GM.

UPDATE: 12/19/14 WSJ

A redesign of the Wrangler, which still resembles the military vehicle it is based on, is due in 2017. The new model’s body likely will be made largely of lightweight aluminum instead of steel. Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne said in October that change may prompt a shift of Wrangler production to another factory. City and state officials are taking his remarks to heart.
And so it goes, a good idea is recognized and, of course, copied.

The plant were they make the Wrangler in in Toledo, Oh which is about an hour away from me. It will really hurt the city if they close that plant. In fact, Toledo is where the jeep started with ****** Overland. The current plant is only a few miles from the where the original plant once stood.

Not that I am standing up for Jeep or anything, just hate to see that many jobs lost.
