Carpet delete on 2015 F150
It will be interesting to see if the 2015 Build & Price behaves the same way when configuring the options and packages on the 2014 XLT. Get to the interior options and select Carpet Delete, and poof, you will find 301A or 302A packages automagically removed, and you are stuck with 300A only...
Really Ford?
Count me in as a carpet hater. Carpeting on *any* vehicle is an archaic marketing gimmick that should eventually just go away. Next time you are at an auto show, go check out the floor liner in the Honda Element or Jeep. There are far better materials available instead of the rough 'plasticy' carpet you get now. Just as people like to complain about trying to keep black paint clean, my pet peeve is carpet that gets dirty 2 seconds after I finish vacuuming it.
I used the forum search (gasp!) and read the old thread discussing this option, how it's not available above XLT trim, and that the popular alternative is Weathertech floor mats. Or get the dealer to replace the carpet. Or get the liner from the parts dept and install yourself. This would be a bigger PITA if you have the floor shifter/console...
Which all circles back to why Ford won't let you order carpet delete ON ANY F150 TRIM LEVEL and also remove 301A/302A packages if you DO want this option? It took years for Ford to finally offer paddle shifters as an option on auto Mustangs (the wife and I both have Mustangs, but with 6MT). One would assume carpet delete is a low priority 'hardly anyone notices or cares' option. But my point is that the option already exists, and doesn't require re-engineering or complex redesign of a component such as the automatic transmission. A floor liner is about as low tech as it gets.
The prices for a new 2015 decently optioned 4x4 Screw are pretty steep, so I plan on getting a leftover job2 in 2016. This leaves me no option but to buy off the lot and install the liner myself. Funny thing is, after all my ranting, I will likely upgrade the stereo with at least better speakers and powered subwoofer. So pulling out all the seats and carpet to replace the carpeting is the perfect opportunity to run the wires to an amp or powered subwoofer.
Bottom line is, I wish Ford would offer carpet delete on any model, no matter what trim level or option package you choose.

That carpet is what makes the truck quiet. They are not going to offer a "carpet delete" option on higher trims because the people buying the higher end trucks want a quiet ride and Ford doesn't want the consumer reports complaints. The lower end work trucks, no one will complain about noise.
Why would you want paddle shifters on an automatic mustang? If you want to shift get a manual...
These are both options that very few people want...

Of my six vehicles, the two with rubber floor coverings are much more difficult to keep clean than the carpeted ones.

I'm with OP, get that damn carpet out of there. People pay more money for vehicles with carpet then they cover it with rubber mats. I believe they do this because they need packages. If you could just walk up and configure a truck absolutely anyway you wanted they couldn't have THE FX4, or THE RAPTOR. Those standard packages are well known and make money for Ford.
