CAPABILITY of 2016 F-150 4x2 with 3.73 e-locking axle VS 4x4
#11
I think you will be fine with 4x2 and the locker.
All comes down to common sense, and skill. Some weight in the bed will help.
I just ordered a '16 F150 4x2 with the 3.31 locker... had to order, as soon as I said I wanted 4x2 salesman looked at me and said there would not be any on the lots, so order I did.
I have had a lot of pickups over the years, never a 4x4 and have never got myself stuck in Pennsylvania winters...
Weight in the bed, common sense and skill... and knowing when not to drive in bad conditions.
I want the 4x2 for better mpgs and less stuff to go wrong down the road because I keep vehicles way past warranty.
Good luck with your choice!

You don't have to contend with snow so I don't see why a 2wd wouldn't make it up that driveway routinely.

I went 3.31 axle to keep rpms lower on highway trips and hopefully better mpgs...
I do not tow anything near max gcvw, so the 2.7's power should be fine.
Up here where I am in PA, mostly all the F150's are 4x4. I don't mind waiting for the order, so I will get the exact truck I was lookin for.
Take care!

I will disagree with the majority of my fellow forum members. I will say nowhere near as capable. Their are many different variables such as tires, weight in the back, etc. However, these trucks are lighter than before with the aluminum and traction does suffer a bit because of it.
The e-locker is nice but I would also be worried about rutting that road out if you have any problems.
The resale value will also be higher if you choose the 4x4 so you will end up getting some of your money back.
Just my opinion--enjoy your new truck.
