Default Better fuel milage with 3.5tt or 5.0 Supercharged

I'm getting a 15 or 16 F150. If I get the 5.0 it will be supercharged by 1000 miles in. Anyone got any realistic fuel mileage comparisons?

Anyone supercharged one of these coyote motors yet? What where your experiences?

Made perfect sense to me. What did you not understand?

If one can actually afford to supercharge the 5.0, one would most likely not be too concerned about fuel mileage. Let us know what the mileage is once you follow through.

Disagree. The cost of a supercharger on a Coyote would set me back what I spent on fuel over only 18 months with my previous F150.

That said ... when you add FI to a vehicle, its' going to be tuned. That typically results in better fuel mileage if you stay OUT of the FI. But who can drive a FI vehicle and NOT use it? Nobody.

Therefore, while MPGs could go up, they never will in a real world situation.

What kind of work would you do to the EB if you went that way? Stock? Tune? Upgraded hardware?

Anecdotally, I would assume the 5.0 with a screw on it would give you better mileage. I used to get better mileage out of my own 5.0L than out of my work truck with the EB in it. Adding the supercharger and a tune, I would expect more efficiency out of the Coyote, the problem then becomes....who drives their 500hp FI V8 with fuel efficiency in mind? Haha.

Lots of variables in my situation too.

2011 5.0L
- 240,000kms on it (WELL broken in)
- Nice loud Solo exhaust lets me hear the truck and adjust throttle accordingly
- My own very strange driving style...probably 50/50 mix of "max efficiency" driving (cruise set a couple MPH over the speed limit, humming along in the slow lane) combined with complete *******-pedal-mashing-wide-open-throttle road raging, hahaha.
- 2.5" lift with 34" LT Terra Grapplers
I used to consistently get better than 10.0L/100km (23.5MPG) when the truck had 33" P rated snows on it all year. Best I ever did was 9.5L/100km (24.8MPG) all highway. Now with the lift and 34" LTs I get 12.8 L/100km (18.4MPG) if I behave myself.

2013 EB
- 8,000kms on it...5.0L didn't "break in" and start getting good mileage until after 20,000km so this one might improve too.
- Truck is super quiet compared to mine, so without the exhaust roar in the background I'm pretty heavy on the pedal.
- Strange driving style again; quite a bit of idle time and a lot of WOT pedal smashing
- RWD model with P rated tires, so not really comparing apples to apples in terms of equipment.
When I'm just driving the truck and not letting it idle, or flying around at 100MPH I get around 18MPG from it but I've never been able to do a full tank of just regular driving. Best full tank average is 13MPG. Averaged 7.5MPG out of the last tank, hahaha.

Let me preface this by saying I know nothing about engines. I would guess if you supercharged a 5.0 it would probably put out TOO much power. I know with my 3.5 eco, if I get on the gas pedal the traction control kicks in because the back wheels start to spin (because of the lack of weight in the back end). I can only imagine the larger 5.0 would have the same experience...only worse. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Nah. Too much power in a vehicle is almost like having too much money. Darn near impossible. The owner of a construction company based near here had a Velocoraptor (probably misspelled), which is a supercharged Raptor (6.2). Aftermarket company Hennessy (maybe misspelled again) produced them. So if a company can market a vehicle with a supercharged 6.2, a supercharged 5.0 should be completely drivable. I doubt either has a bigger power to weight ratio than a large displacement sport bike.
