WoW! I just LOVE the hypocrisy...

So installing lift kits, different lights, bull bars, bigger tires, louder exhaust is to be praised, but change the horn and get chastised? LOL

Pot. Kettle.

OP-enjoy your new truck, and make it your own.

I see train horns as more of a novelty/funny effect item.

I have a buddy with them and he uses them as a celebratory signal. To signal his arrival/departure with a wave...honestly used this way it gets a smile and a laugh out of everyone.

Like everything I guess, used responsibly they are pretty fun.

So your buddy is like 1 out of every 10000 train horn owners. Most douchebags with train horns think it's funny blowing them on the freeway and other traffic. I've personally witnessed two accidents due to drivers startled by train horns.

absolutely.
I have an 8 y/o son that is completely fascinated with trains. While watching a random youtube video we came across a train horn video. He asked if we could get a set so I agreed.

If 99.99999% weren't a-holes causing problems no one would care. For example, I don't care about blinding sun bright backup LEDs usually. But last night during a torrential thunderstorm some dickwad had his on while driving down the road. From a distance it was difficult to tell whether or not it was a vehicle coming at us or not. First time I've ever seen it happen though. So, I don't think all backup LEDs are bad.

But there is a plethora of redneck dumbasses blowing train horns at inappropriate times.

Probably true. Personally, I don't like 'em. Never owned one, and never will. But come on man...

I just think differently than most I guess. I see so many posters bragging about their "e-*****" size (IE Look at this great mod I just did, what do you think???...Look at how high my truck sits with these big old tires!!! Listen to my exhaust!!!), which is fine and all, but then to turn around and tease another poster because of his uniqueness?

Like I said, I just think differently than most is all.

I used to think I wanted a train horn as well, but decided smartly against that some time back. Just way too loud. I live in the city, so it wouldn't be for hello's and goodbye's. I do like a little bit of the startle and get someones attention. Seems most drivers are doing so many other things in their cars these days besides driving them. Phones, kids, eating. WTH - everything will wait, too many people think they have to address the immediate problem they have - your problem is you need to focus on your drive. I personally wish cell phone jammers weren't illegal - that is what I'd choose to install, but see a guy just got a big fine (don't think there was jail time) for running one recently. It's just our society and the "it's all about me" attitude.

I have air horns on my truck. Mine are a little louder than your average semi. They're a fun novelty. In the year I've had them on my truck I've used them on another driver once - they sat at a green light. I gave them the regular horn. Still no movement. Air horn got them moving.

My install was more of a function over form thing - so, not pretty, but definitely works.
