Default 5.0 COBRA JET vs BOSS 302 intakes 5STAR PERF.

Anyone seen the new cobra jet intake from 5* for the 5.0. Looking at the dyno sheets I can't justify the $500 difference from the boss 302. Whats the advantage of the cobra jet over the boss 302. Anyone have either of these from 5*?

On a different note I'm having a hard time decided whether I want to go the intake and procharger route or just wait and get a whipple or roush (when they come out with one). Feel free to chime in with pros/cons of both. For those of you that say its a truck not a sports car - don't even waste your time. These trucks are fully capable of hauling *** and still being a truck which is why I love them.

Take a look at the graphs, I woudn't say it's worth the price hike at all for the Cobra Jet:

If 5 star could convince me there's $500 worth of gains somewhere on that curve I might think about it. The biggest reason even considering the intake is because it fixes that awful torque lag which sucks for towing.

Both of these, will make you loose torque to gain a little HP up top, depends what you are after. You have to rev above 6K RPM to get that last bit of extra HP. Unless you spend a lot of time at the strip, not exactly the most usable power.

Where do you see that they lose torque? Based on those dyno graphs I see no indication or loss of torque.

I come from the Mustang world where this is a huge debate. I own a Boss 302 and have thought about converting to a CJ intake. I rev up to 8,000 rpm safely and that is where the CJ shines over the Boss. To get the full value of the CJ intake the throttle body also needs to be upgraded along with cams.

Even with all that, it turns out to be real expensive HP.

There was another thread comparing tuned 5.0L to 2.7L eco in that dyno chart the 5.0 was at just around 325 ft-lb for MAX torque. In this chart it's quite below that, but appears to have a few more ponies up top.

Cant imagine revving my truck past 7,000...I also saw that 5* is using a round throttle body opposed to the gt500 oval style. Seems like if your gonna do CJ intake you'd definitely wanna do the oval throttle body as well

Correct. Lots of testing has been done with the Super Cobra Het TB or the dual 65mm. The single oval adds a little more but is harder to tune.

My vote would be to skip the intake, skip the Procharger, and put the money into a Whipple. I like that blower's power band the best for a 5.0 truck. I had an F-1 Procharged Mustang and it was a blast but instant power down low is what I want in a truck. Go with any of the TVS kits if the Whipple is too pricey, just make sure you don't skip any of the support parts either way.
