Default ?5.0 or 3.5? I'm trading in. . .

Perhaps this thread should go in a different place, but I'm not really finding what I'm looking for. Is there anyone that has traded in a 3.5 in on a 5.0 V8? I am trading in my 2012 3.5 eco, and want dependability more than anything. I put on a lot of miles, however, with a leadfoot, and do want decent mileage, but still want plenty of power available. I'm leaning towards a 5.0. I don't tow usually, but do tow occasionally. I tend to drive 75, 80, 85 in the states that allow me to do so. I sure would appreciate some feedback, because I want to do the "right thing". You Boys (and Gals) would know better than any one else. Thank you!

If you don't tow heavy loads, the 5.0 will do everything you need it to do. If you haul fairly heavy loads, then get the 3.5 Eco again. With the weight savings, both have more potential now. Just make sure you get the things you need first before you look at options you want.

Just get the 3.73 gears and you're good. I have that combo on a 157" wheel base truck and it's nice

I find the 5.0L pretty sluggish with 35s, if you plan on lifting it and going with big tires I would suggest the 3.5L. If I could go back and change it I would.

Default No worries

I just traded for my third ecoboost and the the newest version is better than previous versions. The 5.0 felt sluggish to me after driving a 3.5 eco for 5 years. The 2013 FX2 i just traded had a programmer and the 2015 without feels stronger, all of my previous models were all geared the same so over time Ford has stepped up performance on the eco. My boss has had a 5.0 since 2011 and just traded up to a 250 power stroke due to amount of heavy towing he does, but regularly towed 10k plus with his and had great luck. I have had great luck with mine so I don't think you could go wrong either way. Test em both and make the call off how they feel to you, mileage is negligible so get one and enjoy it !!

Dalingrin, no issues, except worn out spark plugs @ 60k, and hinge broke on the fuel flap. I had them check out the timing chain, and virtually no wear, no slop. I try to use the best synthetic I can get my hands on and change oil every 7000 miles. The truck is running beautiful @72K, and I've found is the best time to trade it in, when there is no issues.

I came from a 12 crew with the eb and 331 gears. I now have a 15 crew with 355s. The positives with the 5.0 are: the sound! Seems to be a bit more consistent mileage, and it still scoots pretty well! Just a little different power band, gotta get into the throttle a little more to get it moving! The eb positives: the motor felt so comfortable towing, that little turbo whistle is pretty cool. Can't go wrong with either I don't think

Get the Eco. In my experience the 5.0 is no more dependable than the boost. Had to have the motor replaced on my '13 and I didn't even have 28k miles on it.
