It's not potential, torque, low end torque directly relates to towing ability, load capability, and climbing steep sketchy grades. On the other hand there is always the Nastruck crowd...

Force induce a 5.0 and you have a monster. That equals potential. Its there, ready and waiting if one feels froggy.

Oh I don't disagree, I think the 5.0 is a great motor, always liked it. Just the 3.5 ecoboost is a torque monster right out of the factory. That motor is built for trucks. The 5.0 is is Ford's jack of all trades V8. It does everything pretty well but nothing truly great without a lot of tweaking.

It's a mustang engine.... I don't know the answer but wonder if a blown 5.0 can match an Eco under 2500 rpm in torque. The 5.0 likes to and needs to rev for power. Nothing wrong with that-just not a typical truck poweplant.

Boosted I'm sure it can but I thought the original question was concerning both engines in stock form? EcoBoost seems to offer tq on par with the 6+liter V8's being used these days, similar fuel consumption too.

I have the 5.0 V8 (3:55 gears) Love the truck/engine and chose it over the Ecoboost when buying because I like the V8s,that's just me.

The owner of the company I work for has the Ecoboost,he loves it.Iv driven both and both engines are great engines, they are just great in different ways.Hit the pedal in the 5.0 V8,the nose/hood snares up and the engines howls/has a abrupt acceleration. Hit the pedal in the Ecoboost and it's more of a quiet smooth surge/transition to accelerating.

2 very different engines, but both great.

Default Clarification

Maybe accidentally is a loose term here.
For more clarification, I took the same route with two different trucks/engines, which involved a stop sign and right hand turn. I already knew about sport mode (thanks to the guys in this forum) so I turned it on for all test drives. When I took the turn with the Eco I heard the tires squealing for quite a while. Enough to make the salesman laugh a little. I don't recall giving it more than 50% throttle.

I'm not trying to exaggerate, so hopefully that explains it a little better for you. Bottom line is the 3.5TT had much more low end torque and I liked the way it drove much better than the 5.0.
