No it's actually kinda smart.
The 2.7 is a bad *** little motor which they are really going to push the MPG's with (advertising) even more so than when the 3.5 came out. Dropping it in the bigger trucks, although much lighter than previous gen will mess up those numbers for sure.

Things that were of interest to me...

Need to review more carefully, but at first glance it looks like:
  • No 'Lariat Sport Appearance' in any of the new colors except magnetic metallic..
  • No 3.5 Eco and 3.73 gearing without Heavy Duty Payload (which further requires Max Tow package and longbed if Supercrew...)
  • No bucket seats on anything less than a Lariat Luxury...
  • Two-tone lower color is now Magnetic Metallic instead of Pale Adobe...
  • Power running boards finally an option on the Lariat...

23 gallon fuel tank is listed as standard equipment...every pound counts right...
Looks like the bigger tank is 33 gallon.

23 gal @ 20 MPG= 460 mile range,
23 gal @ 25 MPG= 575 mile range.

With the 2.7 engine, I would be reluctant to pay extra for a 33 gallon tank. I also wonder if the larger tank would interfere with cat-back exhaust mods?

well the current trucks have 36 gallon tanks (or standard 26 gallon), so exhaust mods shouldn't be an issue.

also with the new 2.7v6, it will allow you to add 20" wheels on the XLT model, but not on the Lariat.

so much for the rumor that the Guard color wouldn't be offered, it's available for the Lariat and up models.

Power tailgate lock finally standard on XLT-up. Navigation optional on XLT and can still have cloth seats too (good news for those who don't want to be forced into a higher end model with leather just to get navigation)

New Flip key too, and then push-button start on Lariat-up.

Rear underseat storage standard on Lariat-up, optional on XLT

the "Sport Appearance" packages is basically the same as the old FX2/FX4. The new FX4 package now seems like a waste unless you really want the off-road shocks and skid plates.

now, how much will all of these different options cost, wonder when the build&price website will be online?

Seems like it would be cheaper and better to get aftermarket off-road shocks and thicker skid plates than the factory ones.

Hmmmmmmmmm.......moonroof is only available on the SCREW. And Max Tow option is not available on the 2.7 engine?
Does that mean you can't get the big gas tank with the smaller engine? I love our 36 gallon tank when I am towing our TT.

And if the below is the case, then they ARE making a mistake in the offered configurations. There seem to be a LOT of short bed SCREWS currently on the lots, and some with the Max Tow.

No 3.5 Eco and 3.73 gearing without Heavy Duty Payload (which further requires Max Tow package and longbed if Supercrew...)
