Ski, I wonder if Ford figured the '15 feels noticeably more powerful with the current 3.5 TT and the weight loss. You would also expect it to have slightly better fuel economy without any engine mods, leaving those tuning options open for future 3.5 models. I have a '13 3.5 EB SC and I can't wait to drive a '15 in the same configuration to see what a 700 lb weight loss feels like!

Oh, yeah, there is that. I was referring more to the softness in throttle response and shifting. A 5-Star tow tune makes a huge difference in the way the truck drives and the pleasure in driving it. If they just did a little of that...

Gotcha. I'm imagining a '15 that is 700 lbs lighter with one of those tunes....yep I'm following you now and that does sound pretty sweet!

Personally I think the new engine's Ford is offering are a smart move. That's me tho.

Obviously GM, Chrysler, & Ford are taking the MPG wars seriously. Toyota however.....is not yet.

Toyota's own lead engineer stated that it's a reliable proven powerplant.
So they felt no immediate need to change it.

As we can all see by the recession years to 2013, sales have increased steadily.

Not as high as the peak in 2007 of course, but lets face reality.....
That's when everyone was irresponsibly financing vehicles out of HELOC home loans before the real estate crash.

However, I personally feel Toyota's Tundra is a very very nice truck and was my 2nd choice.
The only thing killing it for me was the MPG versus the competition. 2013's had the best cloth too.

Toyota doesn't care about mpg on a truck because cafe d standards are based on fleet average and they sell tons of high mpg cars and few trucks. Ford, dodge, and gm are the opposite. So Toyota doesn't need to care because a 1-2 mpg improvement won't much affect them.

Is it later than normal for the testing and certification to be over before Ford can release HP and torque figures for the 5.0 ?
I am assuming Ford has not yet released. I do not remember folks not having figures when they can order a new truck.

This. I know tons of people with both F150's and Tundras. *NONE* of the people I know with Tundras have ever had any issues, and some of them own trucks with 350K+ miles on them. The mileage is the ONLY thing that held me back from owning a Tundra; and if I ever have serious issues with my F150, that'd be my next choice.

I'm not sure why this has turned into a Toyota Tundra discussion, because there is really nothing to discuss.

If the Tundra is as good as its proponents in this thread claim it is, why are American truck buyers buying other brands, in droves?

I mean, it isn't even close, 951,322 for the USA top 3 compared to 69,299 for Tundra, they are being outsold by 13 to 1. Must be a great truck. Really?

And that is NOT an opinion.

I'd take sales numbers with a grain of salt. If you discount something enough, no matter how bad it is, it will sell. Sales volume is not necessarily an indicator of good quality.

Fact is Toyota has been improving the Tundra steadily year after year. You would expect that from any major manufacturer. Is it as good as an F150? In some respects yes, in other no. Depends on what choices you make in your options. And choice is good. Competition is good. The 2014 Tundra is an outstanding truck, on the par with the 2014 Ford F-150. Too bad Ford moved the goal posts, again.
