Thanks to volnux for posting this pic today.

That is 718# for the math-challenged, LOL.

This is so subjective.
The weight variances will be huge depending on options, body styles, and of course aftermarket products like bigger tires, wheels, lift kits, etc. A full tank of gas runs around 250lbs. Theres no question the truck is lighter, i just don't think we will see any big gains in fuel savings. Time will tell and surely this forum will report on it all.

You keep saying it's depending on options, body styles yet the fact is it's lighter. If I bought a 2014 and 2015 I'd have the same options and add same after market stuff at end of day it would be 700 lbs lighter, period.

A full tank of gas is a full tank of gas in both.

Hold your supportive thoughts until after they arrive. Yes, you are correct (feel good?) it is 700# lighter. However, I am not putting the for sale sign up on my '13 with the belief that there will be these huge fuel savings and that the 2015 is a far superior truck. Much like the ecoboost when it came out.. And the whole start stop thing in the 2.7 eco is another area to keep an eye on. I'm not going to celebrate until I see the real life benefits of the hype. Lets see how much fuel savings there is and if its worth my time to trade up in a few years. Some folks seem insulted because others (like me) aren't prepared to stand in line overnight to be the first to own one of the new 2015 model trucks.

Feel awesome thanks.

I fully agree with all that you said above. That being said Ford never said it would be better on MPG, just lighter. Most of us assume that logically its lighter and will have better MPG, whether 0.5 mpg or 3 mpg. Fact is, lighter will no doubt get better MPG you just might need a microscope. So I completely disagree that you think there is no benefit to a lighter truck.

Also I think if your looking for HUGE fuel savings, its probably not going to happen.

I have a 2012 SC FX4 that is leased, I am up in April, but should be paid off in December. Then I was told last night that I am one of the few that actually have equity in my lease. My payoff is ~$24k and they want to give me $27k. So I am now thinking of buying a 2014 and save huge. After September I am sure they will not offer me anything close to the $27k. I am afraid all these extra things in the 2015 I want will end up putting it out of price range.

What would you do?

An article on the weigh in with more info reveled (linked below)
2014 Lariat 4x4 Mid Level Trim 5.0l V8
2015 Lariat 4x4 Mid Level Trim 2.7L Eco

This is going to be the most Dramatic weight difference, 732lbs. Ford said no less than 625 across the board though. I also want to note the 3.7L 6 is out, it is now replaced by a 3.5L 6. - Since the lighter body needs less power. (What are they doing)

I tried to get a volunteer to do this on another thread, I can't do it for various reasons.

Take mpg reading on a section of level road for a few miles. Put 700# in the bed and try that section of road again. See what happens to your mpg.

I suspect that the difference will be measurable, and definitely noticeable.

Why is the weight loss all about fuel savings to everyone?

What about performance? handling, braking, acceleration, payload, everything. Not just fuel savings

Since we're not talking algebra, geometry, etc. here, how about 'arithmetically challenged'?
