Default 2015 F-150 to have LED headlights!!!

According to the article, these lights are going to have only one (!!) diode with 16 lenses with 80 facets.....two concerns here:

1. What are these going to cost to replace?
2. LED's produce no heat, so is Ford going to put heated lenses on these lights for the winter?

LED's still produce plenty of heat. Hence why most high powered LED's have heat sinks on them.

In fact most of the heat generated by LEDs is at their electrical base, not on the bulb surface........

This does NOT sound like enough heat when it is 10 degrees and snowing to keep the headlights from icing up, does it?. Ford may well have to provide a heat sink/heated lense to keep them clear in all kinds of weather.

Lots of other vehicles have LED headlights, I have LED offroad lights, it gets to -40 up here and never had an issue with ice, the only reason you would get ice is because of heat, the lights melt the snow and it freezes

Very good point. So the only time it would be an issue is during freezing rain. Normally the headlight heats up enough to keep the ice from freezing on it.

I have zero issues with my rigid d2's or R-series. both pack a punch for light output and have massive heatsinking, Ford's likely to be the same way.

My issue is more with the inability to install higher and brighter quality aftermarket lights.
Yes LEDs are brighter right up front but luminance wise, not so great.

On what they use for LEDs yes I'll agree. You can always add rigid LEDs for more brightness. My rigids overpower my hid's like crazy!
