I may pickup a 5.0L tomorrow. I am afraid of what I will get!
I completely agree. I spent $55k on this thing and I don't even get the city mileage? That's BS! Love the truck but the MPG isn't realistic. 15 3.5 Eco Turbo 3.55

I was just reading the VERY comprehensive Edmunds.com long term test (25,000+ miles) of the 2.7L. They averaged around 16.6 in mixed real world driving. They loved the performance, but were extremely disappointed in the MPG.
That confirms what I have been experiencing. I love the twin turbo setup, but I certainly would not buy it again under the guise of ECO, but rather BOOST, ala performance. The ECO is a myth from my perspective. Blowing by a Hemi making gobs of noise is worth it though.

There are very different driving habits and those habits definitely affect gas mileage. We have a 535I and when I was driving it, I was getting a combined 28.2 MPG, 70% city. When I got the truck, the wife started driving the 5 and when I jumped in it the other day I noticed that it was down at 22.8 avg. She is a heavy foot off the line kind of gal. I drive fast, I am a firm believer that if there isn't anyone in front of you, there shouldn't be anyone behind you. THAT SAID, I also know where your fuel economy kills you and that is under heavy acceleration so I don't (generally ) care about being the first off the line.

For the life of my truck, I am at 18.9 mpg average on the computer, I know, I know.

This week I took a turn around trip to Atlanta for 2 days and here are my results. I spent a solid 2 hours of the trip in stop and go traffic as well.

I just wanted to post a different opinion. Not looking to flame anyone. We are all different and different driving habits are a part of that.

P.S... for anyone traveling through Gaffney, SC on I-85 this holiday weekend-

At these prices, bring back the 6.2L. Lol

No doubt! Driving habits definitely affect the MPG.
However, in my case, my commute is typically 15 miles each way up and down some hills with speeds from 25-55 on 2 lane rural roads. I drive it totally leisurely.

I just hit reset and for one round trip, 15.8 is the best I can do.

I can't really drive any different without interrupting the flow of traffic. It's mostly middle aged and elderly around here, so no speed demons.

I think the terrain has much to do with it. I live in the PA mountains, there really are no flat roads here, you are either coasting or climbing.

We also have higher gas prices and taxes. 87 is still around $2.35

I have never seen anything close to 18, not even on the highway with the cruise set at 72. And my figures are based on the computer/dash guage, the real results are probably lower!

I must have bought a freak.
This dash shot is from my round trip to hunt camp from lower Delaware to Highland Co. Virginia which includes 65-75 mph on the highway RT-66 and I-81, lots of traffic around the beltway (Washington DC), and mountains (RT-250) from Staunton to McDowell.
Averaging 21.4 mpg in those conditions I am very happy.
See my signature for how my truck is equipped.

I'm seeing about the same in Western Pa. About 15.2 on my first two tanks of gas. Pa has always been hard on gas mileage in my experience. The constant on off throttle because of going up and down hills.

Seems typical around here. I was really hoping for better, but it seems it is not to be. Other local EB owners I have talked to have indicated 14-16 as well. Ugh!

On my journey last night, traffic was awful (7 hours from north of Atlanta to just north of Charlotte). I jumped off the highway for a Waze detour and noticed the truck was trying to stay in 6th gear at about 50MPH over slight rolling hills. I locked out 6th and it felt more responsive. This lugging in 6th has to be killing gas mileage too. Has anyone had any measurable benefit in locking out 6th or using sport mode in this scenario? I would imagine holding the lower gear a little longer would help. Just a thought.

I am not sure on that one. Normally I would think staying in the taller gear would help MPG. However, if the turbos are working trying to keep it there it may be detrimental to MPG. There are a few variables at play.
