Sir, your driving schedule is one that should deliver near maximum mpgs. (55 mph, a few stop signs) my 5.7 would crack off over 20 mpgs driving like that and the 5.0 would match what you're getting.I think this is as about as good as you're gonna get. MPGs don't drastically change. I shutter to think what kind of mpgs you're going to get when or if you tow something over 4k lbs.
Why not get 5.0 for the same price? (yeah it is the same when you add the payload package for the 2.7tt) You get much better tow rating and similiar mpg. The 2.7tt is going to lose interest now that gas is dirt cheap.
Lastly and AND MOST IMORTANTLY, which do you think will have better resale value?? Personally I would rather buy a V8 with 100k miles vs a tiny turbo engine that has been under boost its whole life (as opposed to the less strained 3.5tt)

I don't quite understand the 2.7 option. It most likely isn't going to get much better mpg than the 3.5.
I'd probably take the 5.0 over the 2.7 based on peak HP.

Thanks for posting your results. This message board has some well meaning but rather ignorant people at times. The engine you chose, was your choice. I sincerely hope that you are pleased with it, and if not then you have the choice to let others know or not. Are you planning on keeping the truck for a long time, or do you lease /trade every few years?

Yea this thread almost needs a mod to come in and clean the joint up. I get people are entitled to their opinions but questioning another person's decision over an engine choice? If you want to bitch about MPGs and torque and how superior the 5.0 is, start a new thread. Don't sabotage a decent thread with some pretty cool info (that a few people are interested in) over your inability to wrap your brain around the appeal of a turbo.

I bought the 2.7 because I wonted the 2.7. If I had wonted the 5l I would have bought it. The 2.7 is the most advanced gasoline engine Ford ever put in a vehicle. I think he made a wise choice.
