great thread to get other's experiences and help someone in the market for a new truck. i was eyeing the 2.7l ecoboost for the mpg, and snappy performance and good reviews i have read/seen on youtube. i do not tow anything. this will mainly be my daily driver. i drove about 30 miles to and 30 miles from work. i currently drive a 2011 sonata which i am able to squeeze out 30-32 mpg. going to miss that. but wanted a truck again. when i had my 2009 xlt super crew with the 4.6 v8 w(air intake) i was able to get about 19mpg. i have a light foot. my wife on the other hand would get about 13-15 mpg when i would let her borrow it -__-
with all that said, i feel the 2.7l is probably the best engine for me. just need to decide on color (ruby red, blue flame, black). off to other threads
thank you for all your input

Depending on the type of commute you have and how strong your mpg-fu is, you can easily squeak 24 out of it. On longer trips where I concentrated and used every technique I know, I was able to squeeze 28mpg out of it. That was over about 250 miles. I don't have any experience with it, but I have heard good things about the 3.5 na as well. Just not as much performance.

This sticker is on the frame, it has HD on it. Does that mean it's the heavy duty frame ?

2016 F-150 SuperCrew XLT, 302a package, 4wd, 3.55 Locking differential, 36 gallon tank.

Thanks guys....
The 2.7L is not designed for heavy towing so the max. tow package is not offered. For a 4x4, the 2.7L max. tow rating is around 7500 lbs. with a 3.73 gear ratio. In comparison, the 3.5L Ecoboost with Max Trailer Tow Package and 3.73 is around 12,000 lbs. You can search for the 2016 Ford Towing Guide to get specific numbers but they do not vary a lot for the 2.7L.

8100lbs with the 2.7 payload package... For me that is plenty for a half ton truck if I pulled more than that I'd get a F250 diesel. I owned two V8 F150's and one with the straight six and this truck so far is my favorite. I only hope to tell you the same thing in another 100,000 miles.

From the 2016 order guide:

PACKAGES/OPTIONS ADDED
● Functional/Powertrain
— 2.7LGTDI engine standard on 502A– (Late Availability)

Looks like it will be late availability or 2017.

There was a letter sent out to dealers cancelling the 2.7L with the 502A option package for all of the 2016 model year.

Only thing I don't like about my 2.7 is the Auto Start/Start feature. It ha splenty of power and gets great fuel mileage!

That's too bad. Waiting to see what 2017 brings. I would love a 10 speed with a diesel and HDPP and 502A package. Or even a 3.5 Ecoboost with 10 speed, HDPP and 502A package.

We can dream right?

My current 502A has 1530 payload. The HDPP should get me north of 2k lbs, maybe even 2200 if Ford makes it available.

Payload is more important to me than most of the rest. I doubt I ever tow over 8k lbs but surely not 12k. F250 is overkill for my uses.
