2.7 eco vs 3.5 eco: which one?
I drive a 2010 Ford Flex Limited and do some media and public relations work for Ford. Love the products and just helped my brother in law buy a 2015 XL Screw 2.7L 5.5 bed 4x4 FX4. I've fallen in love with it and am looking at a 2015 or 2016 XLT or Lariat. My struggle is: which ecoboost engine? I will likely get the RWD as I don't off road, my son has a 2000 7.3L diesel Scab F-250 so I have access to a 4x4 whenever i need it.
Both the 2.7L and 3.5L ecoboost engines are twin turbo, the 3.5L tows way more but I don't need to tow anything (though having something that tows more isn't shabby if it's a better, more reliable or better MPG engine). I am a speedy lady and enjoy scooting and great handling vehicles. And love the functionality of a truck.
Would love your thoughts!

Save the Manuals!
If you aren't planning on towing anything super heavy I would go with the 2.7. My fuel economy is around 18-19 with mostly city driving and I'm very pleased with the preformance.

Discussed often on the forum. If you don't tow, then there is no reason to buy the 3.5.

2.7. If you decide 3.5 wait till the 17s come out. Ordering will be close to aug 15. The new 3.5 ecoboost gets redesigned with the improvements the 2.7 got in 15.

they made the 2.7 different than the 3.5 because of the weaknesses found on the 3.5. Dual timing chain instead of one really really long one... Many a 3.5 had issues with stretching. Also there's been no large issues with many members having that engine. Easy to suggest it.

I was in your shoes. I got crap mpg in my Raptor and wanted something better. I just dropped my life savings on a house and will be working 6 days a week for the foreseeable future. I love going camping, Dirtbike riding, off-roading. But the REALITY of life caught up to me. I won't have much time to do that unless I hit the lotto or marry a sugar momma(both of which WILL NOT HAPPEN).
So with that said I looked at things realistically. Let's narrow down the engines. Am I going to be towing a camper? No. Can a 2.7 handle a little Uhaul across town? Yup. Next, will I be off-roading? Nope. So I don't need 4wd. I live in flat Southern California. 50/50 Palm Springs/Los Angeles. Next do I need the fully loaded interior? Nope. Don't live where it's 12 degrees so don't need heated seats. Don't need factory nav(although it would've been nice). Use my phone LOL. So The only upgrade I wanted were the captain seats. So I got a 2wd, 2.7 screw with captain seats and saved LITERALLY THOUSANDS by just thinking rationally. And I'm getting phenomenal gas milage. Couldn't be happier. I'd love the v8 rumble but I love the v6 economy! And my 2.7 is fast as **** when I want it to be!!
