Default 1st Oil Change By Dealer

Well, since I get my first oil change free from the dealership, I reluctantly took my new black F150 XL in. I told the service writer that I was very careful with my truck to be sure that I did not scratch anything on my truck. I told them to please be extra careful as well. After about 1.5 hours, my truck is done. Other than some fool parking next to my truck leaving me about 2" between the mirrors, I squeezed in to my truck and drove it home and hope all is ok. Checked the oil level and it was good. The oil filter is tight. Overall a good job at first glance.

Then I notice while I get into my truck, the polished stainless bar between the black rubber step pads on my new step bars is all scuffed up. I guess the guy that changed my oil when getting in my truck can't put his shoe on the big rubber pads on my step bars, he has to stand the chrome looking part of the step bar in between the rubber pads that you are suppose to put your foot on???

So, I grab the Mothers Mag Wheel & Aluminum polish and for the next 30 minutes hand polish the 304 Stainless Steel part of my step bar. I am able to remove all the scratches / scuffs out of it and it again looks perfect. I call the service manager and explain what happened and ask him to please educate the oil change tech that your feet go on the rubber part of step bars, not the shiny polished stainless steel. He agrees, apologizes, and thanks me for calling him. OK, I hope that I saved another step bar scuffing occurrence.

I guess my amazement is why some younger techs have no damn common sense? Why would someone put their dirty shoe on a polished piece of stainless and move their shoe around and scuff the finish. Maybe I should be glad he didn't stand on my hood .......!

Have you had something like this happen as well, only to make you think the tech must of left his brains at home the day he worked on your truck? Wow....Some people! At least I can laugh about it now as I was able to "repair" it myself

Step bar picture. If you look closely, you can see the big rubber pads to step on when getting in the truck. Then in between them is a very small area where he put his darn foot. Geez!!!

Personally, if it's not warranty work, I won't let a dealer wash my truck.

Seriously, you can change the oil yourself in 30 minutes, rather than wasting time going to the dealer, wasting 1 1/2 hours there, checking their work and then complaining about them scratching your truck.

You think that's bad?? Ask the guy that had his sunroof smashed by a tech on his roof while WASHING!!!! Yeah, I'll not be going to the dealer unless it's a "huge" thing.

There is a reason it is called a step bar. My Ford bars are all scuffed on the plastic they have as treads. But they are STEP bars.

I told them NOT to wash my truck and they didn't. I could see the swirl marks on my black truck if they did wash it.
Oh no!
Going forward, I will do my own maintenance as I normally always do.

I normally always do all my own oil changes, however I am still recovering from surgery from a few weeks ago and am still suppose to take it easy. I have a couple more weeks yet before I can crawl under my truck...

Yes, I read about that and even though it was not anywhere as a big of a deal, I still would think some care would be exercised by techs at a dealership....or maybe not

Understood. However on mine there is a big long place to put your foot, and a small place not to. I prefer to keep the shiny part of my step bars not scuffed as long as possible. The plastic or rubber part, obviously will be scuffed over time.
