Drag your fingernail in the scratch, if it catches, it needs paint, or touch up. If it doesn't, it can be buffed. If the scratch itself is white like you say, it's more than likely just in the clear coat.

I have had 2 platinum white trucks. A good air brush touch up painter and you will never see it. The problem is that in your mind you will always worry about the scratch or defect. The color is matchable if you use factory paint. Car lots air brush vehicles all the time in their make ready department. You need a good painter to match the white.

Hopefully the OP took care of this 4 1/2 years ago, or he may have a bit of rust by now.
