I wish I had took pictures of my work while I was doing it. I had the dreaded rear wheel well rust and decided to get after it before it rusted all the way through the fenders. I bought a grinder, numerous different grits of sand paper, primer, a rattle can of E4 paint and of course the body filler. Oh and I couldn't forget the facemask with filters.

I sanded the fenders to bare metal, treated the rust, put the bondo on and sanded it down. Mind you I did this in my garage on a Saturday with the wife b****ing at me about how messy it was going to be. The total job from start to finish took me the better part of 9 hrs. Everything was going fine until I grabbed the wrong can of clearcoat and sprayed the passenger side white. I was going to just live with it because I had accomplished the job of stopping the rust but walking up to the truck the following Monday after work made me decide to have it painted professionally.

The shop said my body work was decent and only charged me $800 dollars to prep and re-spray my complete truck bed. They did such a good job that I'm going to have the scratch marks buffed out of the rest of the truck. They did have to remove my 4x4 decals but I ordered a custom set from a graphics shop online that will match my truck nicely.

I took auto body in highschool over 30+ yrs ago and I'm not afraid to try anything once. I like the satisfaction of doing the work myself, but I'm not ashamed to take my vehicle to a pro if the job is more than I can handle. Doing this lets me know that I can do the prep work on my other car when it comes time to get it re-painted. That job is going to cost about $7500, and it's glossy black.
