I'm on the fence on either painting my own truck using a makeshift paintbooth in the driveway or paying someone.
How much does a regular pain job cost? Is it worth doing it yourself?

There are a lot of variables that contribute to cost. You'll have to get a couple quotes to see if it's worth the savings to do it yourself.

You could see about getting a Maaco paint job; they tend to be less expensive.

But tend to give less quality paint jobs.

DIY in your driveway will be less quality than maaco. If you have an 80 gallon compressor, and some decent spray guns. You could pull it off on a non windy day. Might be able to do it with a 60 gallon, but it will work overtime. You get what pay for with paint. A complete f150 would run $7k easy, to do it right at a shop. That is pulling all handles, mouldings, mirrors, lights, and trim.

You're not really serious, right? I wouldn't paint anything more than a demo-derby car in a driveway. Although, I did rattle-can a camo paint job, on a tweny-five year old beater of a hunting truck once.
The proper primer, paint, hardener, clear and all the other consumables alone, are going to cost much more than a grand. You really going to gamble that much coin in materials, on a driveway paint job?
If someone is asking if they can paint an entire truck (anything other than a total beater) in a driveway, they really don't posses the skills or knowledge to do it.

I just took my 01 Ext cab to the body shop to fix all the dents and dings and repaint it. For all body work, and changing color of the paint, I was quoted $4500. I've since spoken to the shop and added a few things, so I'm expecting somewhere in the ballpark of $5000-$5500.
