Default (97-03) Painting the Grille

Has anybody painted their grille without taking the whole front clip off? Is there enough room behind the grille to shove a piece of cardboard or something down there for overspray? Thanks.

Would look a lot better if you took it out, sanded it, put primer on and painted it.

I did. Turned out really well. Just take your time with the taping and you should be fine.

I just used some black trim paint from autozone. I scrubbed the grill well with a scotch pad and cleaned it really well with some de-greaser.

There's plenty of room behind the grill to stuff a bunch of newspapers.

The one thing to look out for is that the grille is really deep and you need to pay attention to getting the paint an the back. If I had to do it again I would use an applicator for the corners and the back of the grill then sprayed the rest.

Doesn't look terrible, but if I was gonna paint it any other color than black, I would suggest taking it out. I'm thinking about doing mine red.
